A 'Before & After' That Will Blow Your Mind!

The 'before' is hideous. Wait until you see the 'after' and the interior reno. Nothing short of amazing.

I don't think I would ever choose those exterior colors, but they worked out great.

I can see white on a mid century but for a house with detail a little color brings out its beauty.

certainly color helps but I'm not a big fan of blue. interior of house is great but again I don't like their choices of paint color nor their furnishings. Just over $2M

I love the blue with the red and white accents on this house.

Much nicer than the garish yellow in today's POTD.

LOVE the interior colors!!! the LR is similar to my BR wall color. Exterior seems a little muddy. Liked the blues on the houses dibs posted and agree with pepper about that ugly garish yellow house.

I love the exterior paint colors, and like the blue in the hallway. I'm not so fond of the modernization of the interior spaces, especially the dining room. I would not have removed the wainscoting. Don't like the shiny glass subway tiles on the fireplace in the living room. Not very Arts and Crafts. I'm with Jonathan Butler on recessed lights. Blech.

Does every bedroom in America now need its own bathroom? So there are probably 4 or 5 bathrooms in the house?

All in all, they did do some nice stuff, and it's a beautiful renovation. Some of it's pretty subtle, like changing the modern bay windows back to something resembling period, but still modern.

In a perfect world, I think one bathroom per bedroom plus a half bath for guests is a good number, with the master bath having two sinks.

Can people survive otherwise? Of course, but if you are gutting a place and you don't need all the space for bedrooms, why not reduce bathroom sharing and therefore the timing and territory issues that go along with it.

I wish Dona were around to give us an "8 butts, one bathroom" story.

the house i am renting has a bath for each of the 2 top floor bedrooms, one bathroom for the 2 garden floor bedrooms and one bathroom on the parlor floor- which feels like major overkill. the parlor floor bath should be a much smaller powder room which would have left room for a small dining table in the kitchen.

A full bathroom on a floor that does not have any bedrooms is overkill.

at some point you reach a situation where there's more bathrooms than you really wanna have to clean.

with this house, the only two serious 'misses' i count are 1) the removal of the wainscot in the dining room and painting the walls that color plum and 2) the light fixture in the living room. both are an assault on the eyeballs. but i really do love the exterior reno. that blue really pops against the red of the brick and the front door.

and yes, today's potd is probably the ugliest shade of yellow i've ever seen. i'm hoping some photo editing made the house that garish yellow and it's not the actual shade of the house. cause damn!

I don't like the plum in the dining room either. Or that light fixture, but those are easy fixes. The exterior really does look great.

The "plum" color in the DR comes across as very very dark navy, maybe even black, on my monitor, and I love it, but don't think I'd like a true plum color. I also don't mind the recessed lights since they're small. I had hideous eyeball recessed lights in this place. removed them from LR (8 lights) but put in 4 small recessed plus pendants. In the BR, got rid of 7 but kept same "holes" for 6 and replaced with less ugly fixtures. Don't love them but didn't want to spend $ on what it would have taken to change them.
