"There’s an out of control trolley speeding towards four workers. Three of them are cannibalistic serial killers. One of them is a brilliant cancer researcher. You have the ability to pull a lever and change the trolley’s path so it hits just one person. She is a brilliant cannibalistic serial killing cancer researcher who only kills lesser cancer researchers. 14% of these researchers are Nazi-sympathizers, and 25% don’t use turning signals when they drive. Speaking of which, in this world, Hitler is still alive, but he’s dying of cancer."
"There’s an out of control trolley speeding towards three workers. You have the ability to pull a lever and change the trolley’s path so it hits a teenager instead. At a minimum, the three workers’ families will receive a $20,000 insurance payoff each, and the families will no doubt sue the company, which in this scenario you represent. The trolley driver seemed to die instantly from a freak aneurism, so your company might not be faulted for negligence under the FELA and might come out okay. The teenager’s parents, on the other hand, make a total of $175,000 a year, and can afford a pretty decent lawyer."
"WASHINGTON (AP) -- The U.S. economy went into reverse in the first three months of this year as a severe winter and a widening trade deficit took a harsher toll than initially estimated. The Commerce Department says the overall economy as measured by the gross domestic product contracted at an annual rate of 0.7 percent in the January-March period. The revised figure, even weaker than the government's initial estimate of a 0.2 percent growth rate, reflects a bigger trade gap and slower consumer spending. It marked the first decline since a 2.1 percent contraction in the first three months of 2014, a slump that was also blamed on winter weather. Economists expect a rebound in the current quarter to growth of around 2 percent and expect the economy to strengthen later this year."
Come on back, The What!! Your moment has arrived! Time for a victory lap.
Pepper, I think if you are occidental you should use the (((rolls eyes))) bout if you are oriental that <<< rolls eyes>>>. would be appropriate. Need we discuss single epicanthal folds again?????
Hastert didn't wait until he was a lobbyist. He started his House career with modest wealth, and was a rich man by the time he left office. Not in the same league as Bill and Hillary (in terms of take), but the same idea.
No need to resign. They gave me the promised bonus - although was expecting a little more given record earnings. Cant be too greedy or complain as big boss delivered on his promise.

Just back from Hometown BBQ. Big Ranger party going on there.
Line long for food. We left table early to help out the stranded without chairs. Went to Sunny's for the very first time. Nice! Very cool vibe there, Pete.
I offered a stranger a ride out of Red Hook to the train station. She had approached me for directions to the B61 bus stop just minutes before. Poor thing looked like a deer in my headlights when I passed her standing alone at the stop. I made a 'U' turn around and talked to her through my open car window. "Can I take you to the train? I'm headed that way."
Well, the somewhat timid and dowdy woman accepted my offer without hesitation - clearly feeling more secure in a car with someone she had never met before than alone on Van Brundt Street in the dark. I asked Eve where she was from as I couldn't place her accent. She replied, "The East Village."
Stories are born in Red Hook. Always leave with one or more. I have another from the BBQ place. It involves a swarm of uptight PR/fashion gals, their cocktails and 3 regular bicycling guys. Maybe tomorrow.

Now off to work.
Scott, I hope your day turns out better than you expect, and that the time passes reasonably well and quickly without your DW.
Dennis Hastert? I heard of him!

Have to give Dudley for the conviction shown so far on sticking to his blogicide.
Gokul Venkatachalam and Vanya Shivashankar had worked too hard and come close too many times not to win the Scripps National Spelling Bee.
My question is what happened to the all the Smiths, Goldbergs, O'Reillys, Polanskys, Sopranos, Changs, Watanabes, etc.

A story about conversions of warehouses into offices, and no mention of 1000 Dean St!

Time to start drinking.
Maybe we should stop at the Pig first for oysters but then again, we had oysters yesterday.
Decisions, decisions.
Weak. Needs at least more exclamation points.
Pepper, I knew The What. The What was a friend of mine. Pepper, you're no The What.
Exactly one minute elapsed between your arrival and your having a beer. Just sayin'.
Not what I would have expected.
-who is ignoring whom?
-who is lurking at any given moment?
FYI, it's possible to "ignore" someone on Facebook without unfriending them, but I don't see the point of that.
We have never discussed single epicanthal folds.
Another pearl of wisdom

She had attended a play, she said, at the Waterfront Museum. About Female pirates. "Female pirates?", I asked.
