Return of You Know Who: Well looks like the problems in Europe are getting worse. Spain might get downgraded this week.

The Euro is going to 1.10 and there's no support after that. Banks runs going on and things getting worse by the second.
DCB I don't know where your going with this, you used to be OK but, I think arrogance has gotten the best of you.

"The What is incapable if admitting when he is wrong. Fatal flaw."

The only thing I'm wrong about is the timing not about what's going to happen.
When you Print 4 Trillion and try to use more debt to fix the debt problems, it's like giving a drunk more liquor to make him sober.

European Stocks Fall On German Exports, Spain Downgrade
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-06-08/european-stock-index-futures-fall-after-spain-downgraded.html

European stocks retreated, paring the Stoxx Europe 600 Index’s biggest weekly gain in four months, after German exports slumped more than forecast and Fitch Ratings cut Spain’s credit rating.

Fitch just cut Spain's credit rating Dave..

Return of You Know Who: Spain Downgraded

Fitch cut Spain’s rating to within two notches from junk, citing the cost of recapitalizing the country’s banking industry and a lengthening recession.

Spain, which saw its rating lowered from A to BBB, may need as much as 100 billion euros ($125 billion) to bolster its banking system, compared with an earlier estimate of about 30 billion euros, Fitch said yesterday after the stock market closed. The Spanish economy is set to remain in recession through 2013, the ratings company said, having previously forecast a recovery for next year.

Dear Mr. What:
Timing counts. You predicted "Whatmageddon" would occur last Monday.
That didn't happen. Quite the opposite, in fact.
If your point is that there are huge long term problems in the world, then I am sure you are right.
But then again, that is always true.
The trick is to figure out which phase we are in and to be a flexible enough thinker to adjust.
Right now the world is rebuilding.
I am sticking with that theme until it starts to not work. So far, so good.

I am pleased to report that it is working just fine! Those Blackberries - they can take a lickin, and keep on tickin, as the old Timex commericals went.

Moral of the story: don't check your Blackberry when near an open toilet.

GM folks. Getting ready to spend the day in the Slope with the folks. Not really "audience participation" but I thought the funniest thing, so did the rest of the theatre, was during The Untouchables, when a not too well known Kevin Costner turned slowly toward the camera (first sight of him in the movie) and there was an audible "Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh" from the women (and I guess maybe a few guys). The whole theatre cracked up.

OK, I'm easily amused. Have a great day.

And I did post 2 or 3 times on fuckedinparkslope (that site is moonfaces mocking other moonfaces. wtf?) I miss Gazoo. FYI, maybe she will get mad at me saying this, but she said that you guys are very unwelcoming to newcomers and that it's very cliqueish here. (well I said that last part, but it's kinda true). The whole grilling of anyone new here from you people can be a tad off putting to some people who might want to post. Also, do you have ANY idea who the diehipster blog master is? I want to write him a letter, but im afraid I'll be written off because I live in park slope. But I think living in park slope is less moonfacey than say living in the ghetto, no? I do put my money where my mouth is, and I displaced NO ONE. Sociopath definition:

"Antisocial Personality Disorder is also known as psychopathy or
sociopathy. Individuals with this disorder have little regard for the
feeling and welfare of others.

There are ten general
symptoms:

not learning from experience
no sense of responsibility
inability to form meaningful relationships
inability to control impulses
lack of moral sense
chronically antisocial behavior
no change in behavior after punishment
emotional immaturity
lack of guilt
self-centeredness"

One can draw their own conclusions as to who the sociopaths around here are.

I am POSITIVE that once we get a new mayor in town, shit is gonna go down and the things moonfaces get away with now won't be happening as much...

a parade based on sexuality totally grosses me out to begin with. i am just confused what it is such a thing is celebrating? gay people tend to be richer than straights by FAR. not me, im a poor gay. we can screw anyone we want (and we seem to do a lot of screwing). i think we just got marrriage rights to be able to qualify for tax payers allowing us tax breaks and to pay less taxes. (barf). it's not like we can't adopt, i see more lesbians and fags with adopted kids from china and africa than i see straight people. so why the need for a parade? I dont feel the need for a parade. it embarasses me because only the truly vile of us go out and act the stereotype, much like every other parade.

basically what I am saying is that we don't NEED parades. there is nothing to celebrate about homosexuality. much like there is no need to celebrate heterosexuality. if there was a hetero parade on my street id BARF. why do homos want do to do it and make people ill? NEWSFLASH HOMOS: we are doing 10x better than heteros. there is no need for parades and pride. and none of the parades seem to have ANY pride to begin with.

I have to admit that I agree with Rob about parades. Because they make getting around so damn inconvenient. The worse is the St. Patrick's Day parade. The only parades that should be allowed are the Thanksgiving parade and the halloween parade because they have something interesting to look at. I've never seen the Thanksgiving parade but saw all the halloween parades in the early 80's. They had really creative and interesting costumes then. Later it just seemed to be men in glittery drag and Chinese dragons and masks of presidents and got much less interesting. Seen one, seen them all. There should be no parades for countries, ethnicities, or cultures because some group is always going to feel neglected and demand their own parade.

I hope this didn't sound too much like a Rob rant!

Stoops, I wonder how many nationalities have parades in NYC. Even the Norwegians still parade in Bay Ridge, right?

"they have something interesting to look at" - I don't know about that - the gay pride parade certainly has "interesting" people to look at, the question is whether you want to see them or not!

It does not. They mock homosexuality and make me embarrassed to be born gay. It's nothing but a celebration of promiscuity and acting like peter pans. I take ZERO pride in that. I know i'll get no backing on this tho, but whatever. Most people know the truth.

The Gay Pride parade started years ago when there was a serious need for activism & a large turn out of both gays & their supporters had a significant impact on perceptions of the great American public. It made a statement that they wouldn't be content being stuck in a closet any more. I suppose nowadays it's an affirmation of the strides made in general acceptance as well as legal landmarks achieved since Stonewall.

Parades are a leftover from a time when different groups needed to show community pride. It used to be a group used the occasion to show the best of whoever they were, as a time to show solidarity and culture, all things worthy of being celebrated. Add to that patriotic parades, which were to remind people of civic pride and duty. Although they are inconvenient at times, I don't have a problem with them. The more we gather with each other, and learn to appreciate each other, the better off we all are. Plus it gets people outside. We are spending far too much time being insular, with television, video games and computers keeping people holed up in their homes, isolated from everyone, some from even knowing their own family members, let alone anyone else.

As w/ people born after Roe v. Wade & the idea of a right to choose, people coming of age after the huge strides made since Stonewall have very little appreciation of the opprobrium & legal barriers that gay people were subject to. Civic activism has brought about great changes - MLK's Marches on Selma & Washington, DC made a big difference just by showing a mutual respect & solidarity. That's why the Constitution covers the right to assembly - it can be a powerful tool.

http://factfinder2.census.gov/faces/tableservices/jsf/pages/productview.xhtml?pid=ACS_10_1YR_B06001&prodType=table

According to the 2010 Census, there were:
2,508,340 Brooklyn residents
1,244,595 of whom were BORN IN NY
948,052 of whom were foreign-born
81,897 of whom were native US citizens born abroad
233,796 of whom were native US citizens born in another state

And how many of those were from Wisconsin?
http://www.census.gov/hhes/migration/data/acs/state-to-state.html
Well, the estimate is a grand total 2,354 people migrated in 2010 from Wisconsin to New York State (not just NYC) - margin of error +/- 1588. So basically, let's say 2,500 people migrated from WI to NYS. Many of those will be college students. Many didn't go to NYC but most probably did - let's say 1,500. Maybe 600 wound up in Brooklyn. Of those maybe 200 are hipsters and the other young couple-y moonfaces Rob hates.

The article I posted noted the decline in union membership and more-or-less simultaneous decline of the American middle class. Correlation is not necessarily causation. However, I'd like to hear others explain the stagnation of real wages since 1973, regardless of which party is in power, and I'd also like to hear others propose ways to revive the American middle class. No nation will prosper if its wealth and power are concentrated in the hands of the few. People have fled those sorts of countries for the US for a very long time.

Return of You Know Who: Europe bailout of Spain could cost $125 billion

Read more: http://www.nypost.com/p/news/business/spain_to_ask_europe_for_bailout_nHczbfcLLLuIegAl4oWndM#ixzz1xKfZzIbQ

A rescue for Spain will be Europe's fourth since the single currency bloc's debt crisis erupted two years ago. While the country's leaders have long said it would not need help righting its financial sector, markets have been nonetheless concerned about its ability to pay its way. In recent weeks investors have demanded higher and higher costs to lend to Spain, and it became clear it would be just too expensive for the country to borrow the money necessary for a bank rescue from the markets.

Actually Lech's desire to escape corporate wage serfdom for his own land and independence is exactly what we need to revive the middle class. As he points out, the current economic order does not give the average person a lot of dignity.

It used to be that mom-and-pop stores were the norm. Now it's Wal-Mart. It used to be family farms and now it's massive corporate tracts of land (cue Monty Python on "tracts of land"). Six;

The stagnation in wages has nothing to do with the decline of union membership, and everything to do with the fact that this country and the other Western powers face a new reality: ascendant Asian powers. After WWII, virtually every economy in the world save that of the US was flat on its back. The US faced so little competition that we could indulge ourself in the fantasy that a guy whose skill set involved popping on hubcaps at a UAW plant could live a middle-class lifestyle. Those days are gone, and no amount of wishing for them to return will make it so.

Another proof that union membership has nothing to do with it is Europe. Their industries still have a much higher level of unionization, and they are even more stagnant than ours.

The reality of our world is that the economy has globalized, and wishing it were still 1950 is not a solution - it's a delusion.

I really think you need to investigate the economy further before making statements about "corporate serfdom". The fact of the matter is that that FAR less people work for large corporations today then did 50 years ago. Fifty years ago, companies like AT&T, GM, US Steel, etc, were highly integrated, meaning that they manufactured the product from the raw materials all the way to the finished product. Nowadays, the big companies only focus on the last steps: assembly, marketing and distribution, and they rely on a supply chain of smaller companies for parts and in some cases, even manufacture. Take a look at any product, and see if any of the components are made by the final manufacturer.

When I started work for AT&T 32 years ago, it was the only major telecom company in the country. It employed over one million people, and every screw, bolt and resistor in their products were made by their manufacturing arm (the old Western Electric). Nowadays, there are 4-5 major telecom companies, and NONE of them make their own products.

Okay, popping into the shower and then going to the parade outside. Me and Duke are gonna heckle the homos who make a mockery of genetics and do nothing but embarrass us. case in point: beauty bar down the street has a sign in the window about the gay pride parade, except it says, come in side and get nailed and screwed. so tacky. everything always has to boil down to one thing with gayness. getting laid. barf.

I tired to read the OT this afternoon, but it is just more of Rob's hateful stupidity cluttering up the place.

I guess I need to find another online place to hang out.

If the majority of people here wanted to set some sort of site standards that involved banning Rob, I would be completely behind it.
As it is, I will keep doing my best to maintain the technical aspects of this site while I guess I will visit here less and less.

P.S. My son's birthday party was a great and happy success, but Rob will probably try to turn that fact into something perverted.

the gay pride parade on 5th ave was awesome until just now now. my dog and me chilled out for like over 2 hours. even with other dogs and people. then some dog came and got in his face and snapped. my dog bit and then we ran around the block. ugh. that dog was totally unsocialized, Duke is VERY socialized. should I be worried? Someone recorded it. ugh.

other than that incident the parade was mad fun, and marty was on a float and said, shit you not, that "brooklyn is the lesbian place of the east coast" um what? something like that, basically he said brooklyn is the lesbian something something... funny cuz 8/10 people at that parade were lesbians. it was fun until the dog fights. grrr

Partridge, I was almost in your neck of the woods. We were going to go to Marco Polo (had a gift cert), then we looked at the menu and decided, yuck, no. If it worked out, I was going to stop in for a sec.

I did go to the parade though. Rob, Marty said, "Brooklyn is the Lesbian Capitol of the Eastern Seaboard" lol. I did look around for Duke, but I didn't see him. Before I remembered about the parade, we were wondering why we were seeing alot of tranny's, and an old man dressed like Carmen Miranda with a parrott on his sholder. Two very handsome couples (guys) threw my daughter a kiss (again before we remembered the parade). That did not go well with the boyfriend, father, and grandfather. My daughter and I got a kick out of it.

Kazoo, I was half expecting them. They had tried to come last weekend but weren't able to. Then there was a little tease post this morning. I must say, all kidding aside, it has been VERY enjoyable to meet everyone. They have all been quite welcoming to me. Kazoo, it was not impressive at all really. We were saying though, anything that can bring people together peacefully like that is a good thing. Really no-frill as far as NYC parades go.

Oh, Rob, you asked why it was on 5th Avenue? Someone said the merchants on 5th complained that they wanted to get foot traffic in their bars/restaurants/stores. They will alternate (so I heard).
June 9, 2012 11:06 PM - Partridge
Eva, I was going to post to you to stop by if you could, but didn't want to pressure you as I know how you feel about crossing the real life line. Do try again sometime soon! I better get a case of wine in the house.

Eva, I had an Irish friend who marched in the St. Patrick Parade and always invited me. I declined and now wish I had done it at least once. Btw, any gay people who are Irish and belong to their clubs are welcome to march in it. They just didn't want their Irish thing turned into a statement by another group (as when the gp tried to take it over). The Irish didn't want anything to take the spotlight off their drinking. That's what I was told.

June 9, 2012 11:31 PM - Slope4Eva
Unfortunately, the St. Paddy's Day parade gets a bad rap because of the drinking. Anyone is welcome to march in the parade, but a gay banner is not welcome because it goes against Catholic beliefs. I'd like to think the serious parade organizers don't even consider the drinking aspect of the day. And, we are actually celebrating an Italian!!

rf, I've been seeing the news about the article you posted yesterday. Without an opinion either way (by me), it looks like a foot-in-the door to legalization. I write that because calif has legal *medicinal* marijuana. It has been a foot-in-the door to many abuses. Many grow houses claim medicinal use, but there is much destruction of property, crime and danger. Renter-growers gut entire homes and once landlords discover what has happened to their property, there is no recourse, not even insurance. It is a diff story than NY though. I'd hate to see grow houses start in a row of brownstones. The fires, explosions and over-taxing of electrical systems would be disastrous.

It's not a recent thing. He's very socialized, but he gets nippy when people approach me. Not to everyone, just some. He's very guard doggy. It's not necessarily a bad thing. Well maybe it is cuz he tends to bark at nice people and lick and roll over for bad people. Me and him are similar in that way.

Um, I had a conversation with Duke last year that he will not be getting any medical care that costs over 750 dollars. (I have that CareCredit card for dental emergencies and vets). It's almost paid off, and what is on that card I will pay for his care, but if he has to have a procedure that costs over 750 dollars I won't do it and it means it's his time to go.

I find this offensive on so many levels. I hate the words "Janitress" and "Laundress". What's so feminine about either of those occupations? You make both occupations nasty words. You "can't be asked" to do taxes but it's ok for the man who you just called "old and gay" like that was a crime, ten posts ago, and a "sociopath" yesterday, to do your taxes, but he's a "meanie" if he doesn't?

No one wanted to bring up the huge elephant in the room: Scott's willingness to ban rob, as he's not the only one tired of the constant nastiness, negativity, and total takeover of this site by him. I don't like to see anyone banned, not even rob. but he's been asked time and time again to tone it down, and "he can't be asked." Cobble, Snappy, Donatella, Etson, Kens - all people who we know and care about who have said they are not interested in being a part of the rob show. I've only posted once or twice in the last couple of weeks, as have Bxgrl. Guess why.

You can just ignore him, people say, but that's not true. He says such spiteful, horrible things about so many people and groups that ignoring him is tacit agreement that what he is saying is in some way acceptable. Scrolling past his bile, and then interacting with him like he didn't say anything is to tell him that his diatribes and jealous hate are acceptable by all of us, and just gives him license to keep spewing. I will not do that. I will either go away all together, or I'll say something. I get very, very tired of having to say something. I'd much rather engage in a conversation with everyone else. Scott is not the only person sick of the whole thing. Why is it too much to ask that we have some standards?

I do not support a ban on a person. If someone wants to institute guidelines, that might be another story.

Frankly, I don't see what Rob has done that would merit banning. I have not seen him attack on a personal level any more than what some of the more popular people on this thread have done. I have not seen him post anything that would be considered pornographic. He does not post to the extent that it is not possible to have other conversations (and I'm speking for myself there).

Does he post stuff that I would consider offensive? You bet. Do I sometimes get tired of his broken-record rants? You bet. But that's the price of having an unmoderated thread. Finally, I hear things that are a lot more offensive just walking down the street. A few days ago I was walking down the street, and in front of a church (St. Thomas Aquinas), I overheard two middle-aged guys talking. One was advising the other that he should avoid bedding girls that are his daughter's age, but their language was a lot more vulgar than what I just wrote.
June 10, 2012 5:05 PM - bxgrl
Actually, DH- I love pitties. But they need serious training. Before the laser beam of publicity came to rest on them, they used to say pretty much the same thing about German Shepards , dobermans, Boxers. My neighbor's pittie is the sweetest dog. He gets over enthusiastic at times- usually when he's greeting someone he likes. On the othe hand there are some in the neighborhood that you know are not treated well or trained.

Right. Your last blogicide lasted 20 minutes, after an hour of telling us how you were never going to post here again, never. Ever. Never, never, never.

Did it ever occur to you that if you've been banned from every other site you've ever posted on, then it's not the sites, it's you?

You don't have to spout every opinion you have in your head. No one else does. We all think things that shouldn't be plastered all over the internet, or even said out loud. You are the only one who seems to feel the need to share all of your innermost bile, Even the what keeps his personal bile to himself. What gives you the right to not have to use a social and moral filter? We don't want to know. We don't want to know the innermost thoughts of anyone on here, it's a social chatroom, not therapy. Everyone else manages to have conversations about all kinds of things without talk about "shitting out children" and the entire litany of your pathological issues.

China’s exports grew in May at more than double the pace analysts estimated.

Overseas shipments climbed 15.3 percent from a year earlier, the customs bureau said yesterday, exceeding all 29 estimates in a Bloomberg News survey. Industrial output rose by less than 10 percent for a second month and retail sales increased the least in almost six years excluding holiday-month distortions, statistics bureau reports showed June 9.

China’s resilience in trade indicates Europe’s debt crisis has yet to produce a collapse in world commerce and the US economy remains resilient.

wow, that does look like rob at first glance!
Most of rob rants , or things he claims he has witnessed is 90% fabrication and meant to be silly but is provocative if you take seriously enough...for example nurses, gays, whatever. He is always willing for a fight and loves it and will get personal nasty at times....in fact cruel to people that have been good to him and at a vulnerable time for them he goes for the jugular. An obvious trait of personal psychological problems or alcohol abuse.
Some of his teasing really doesn't merit defensiveness -- for example what he may say to dibs, lech or me(altho he rarely does that with me). Such as telling lech his kids better off if he divorced.....that was too silly to be considered serious and didn't need to rattle anyones feathers....certainly would not rattle lech's.

You tell us Duke is the only reason you are in hated Park Slope and yet you have said numerous times you wouldn't move. What you are is a guy without a filter. That's not the same as speaking the truth. What you post are observations- very subjective observations. There is no need to have more than one or two friends. Three, at tops. Any more and it's just being phony. People are, for the most part, going to be who they are. As long as they aren't out killing people and causing havoc on the world in general, it's best that they be left alone, or at least not talked down to. Dave and Pete, I have/had a pretty impressive comic book collection. Been reading them since I was in grade school. My parents didn't mind because it improved my vocabulary, and encouraged me to read other things. Comics led to reading mythology, led to the classics, and even Shakespeare, not to mention other fiction and non-fiction. Someone could do worse than reading comic books. I say have/had because I used to have a lot more than what I have now.

I set up this site to show how quickly and easily a replacement for the OT could be created.
I had no visions of grandeur, or even of the site taking off. I certainly had no visions of a place where people could say anything they wanted with no consequences. If I had any vision at all, it was to create a place where an existing community of people could continue to communicate in the way they wanted.

Here we are almost a year later, and the community has changed, as all communities do. People drift away for various reasons, but in the last two months it has become clear that the primary driver for people leaving this place has been because of the words of one person, or perhaps two.

Neither of the two people have done anything to contribute to this site or to the larger community behind it.

Personally, I have no great desire to be part of this site if things continue has they have been.

I will put up a poll to see how others think.

Anyone watching 60 Minutes now???? Given the facts presented by the reporter, it would seem that the Animal Rights Activists are in the wrong about these exotic game preserves in Texas that allow hunting.

Without these preserves, many of these species would now be extinct. They don't allow more than 10% of the herd to be hunted a year and the money raised guarantees that the animals survive. They have even sent animals back to Africa where they became extinct.

Apparently some of the conservationists are now in agreement with the owners of the preserves. But the woman representing the activists came off as a nutjob.

Pete, I loved Mad Magazine. It was the greatest. I learned all about Jewish humor from Mad, from back in the 60s. I didn't even know it was Jewish humor, but I loved it. I learned all kinds of new words, like "fershlugginer," which I didn't learn until college was Yiddish. Great stuff!

Shazam! I preferred Captain Marvel to Superman. I also liked Pogo & Mad. Peanuts, Sugar & Spike, Donald Duck (when I was in 1st & 2nd grades) &, in UK, Beano & The Dandy. An aunt bought me a subscription to Playboy (which she thought was for tomboys like me) for my 12th bday so I could get Jules Feiffer & I also subscribed to The Village Voice for his stuff.

Yes, seems to be an update where they present the case that the animals have not gone extinct because of these preseerrves. There are apparently more of many of these species now in Texas than in Africa.

That's not taking anything away from Scott, either. I appreciate the time and effort he has put into this, I'm sure cleaning out the spam takes hours, just by itself, not to mention the techie stuff. With all of that in mind, he's entitled to look at his site and not feel nauseous.

Sometimes I read when What is making a bit more sense but often deteriorates and I just scroll by.

Anyone read that mathematician article in the NYTimes today - by his analysis he figures obama gained about 1% of vote total from one demographic and lost 3-4% from total because of his racial background.

For the record, I have been though this before. I did a lot of work for a community-run site with much loftier goals and a much larger number of users than here. I saw it melt down over several years for a number of reasons, but largely due to a small number of users determined to turn the site into a cesspool, and the following battles over where to draw the line.
When this site was set up, I predicted that it would fall to the same forces, and that is one of several reasons why I have invested a relatively small amount of time and none of my own money into it.

I don't know if there is a good answer for a community site with open membership and shared responsibility.

As I said when I set this place up, I did not want it to be my site, and I will adhere to the wishes of the community.

As I have said in recent days, this is no longer a place that is fun for me to hang out at.

actually some of us do know what it takes to run a website. I run 3 for clients. I think Scott knows very well what it takes. And rob, why should you expect to be appreciated when you appreciate nothing and no one?

No one wants a site where you can't freely talk and argue but there are some people who bring the whole thing down to a really low level and that's not only not conducive to a fun time, it ruins it for everyone. and when it becomes a daily bashing, who the fuck wants to read the same shit over and over again? I know some of us actually appreciate the time, effort and money Scott put into this site. Frankly more of us should show it.

The What, I really appreciate that advice.

I made a commitment to myself when I set this site up that I would not pour my life into it.
That is one of the reasons why I have both not really cared when you talked trash about it, and why I have not put a lot of effort into improving it.
Other than the issues of last week, I don't think I have spent even an hour any week supporting it from an admin perspective since the first few weeks.

The one point where I will go against your advice is that I will not shut the site down just because it has no purpose to me. I have enough friends here who do enjoy it to leave it up for them even if I am no longer getting anything from it, as long as the effort I have to put in to maintain it is minimal.

Thanks again,

Oh, where is SlopeFarm when we need him?

I don't think the What is any part of the problem here. His is benign. He offers Dave something to do in between screwing and Jeopardy!, and I for one enjoy him being here and have had a couple of good conversations with him. (On meds, of course.)

Rob is the only issue. Everyone who is having a problem with him keeps saying that he has taken on a new evilness over the past 2 months. Has anyone considered what that timing corresponds to? Rob has been saying most of the same shit for years now without objection and without driving people away. The difference is in his recent, horrific, personal attacks. Rob, I enjoy hanging out with you sometimes and you have never turned on me, so I don't hate you yet, but what you have said to several people about their family is abominable. You HAVE to learn to control that aspect of your speech for your own sake and safety and if this blog is to continue with you as part of it.

I've said some of this before so skip if you are bored.

*Rob is the star of this web show. The co-stars are made up of an equally vital ensemble cast.

*There are 4 reasons to post or read this site. To learn, to teach, to entertain or to show off. The 4th reason has become problematic.

I think banning anyone is very dangerous territory. Firing the star, even if he is Charley Sheen, is very risky and you better have Ashton Kutcher waiting in the wings. And even he can't guaranty success.

In other news....

.....one of the unheralded improvements in Brooklyn/Queens over the past few decades is the steady improvement of Jamaica Bay, both the water itself and the beach areas. When I was a kid, I used to ride my bike to Plumb Beach and Gerritsen Beach a lot, as this was the only "wilderness" available to me. I remember that the beach areas were filled with abandoned and stripped cars, tires, washed up wood from broken-down piers, etc.

While there is still much to do, the beach areas are vastly improved, and widlfe is returning. Yesterday I went to a park on the bayshore off Howard Beach, Queens. It was quite pleasant, and I saw sandpipers, terns and white egrets. I also discovered that one can now rent kayaks on Broad Channel Island and explore the salt marshes. I plan to do so this summer.

Kazoo, I've only met one person so far, so I tread lightly. I would like to see a statute of limitations on reprimanding someone for what they say. Unless its a personal attack, which should be strictly out of the question anyway, if you are not part of the original conversation, don't hash things all up again, we've moved on.

Scott;

I really like you too, and would hate to see you go. I have to say respectfully, however, that I don't agree with your "loudmouth at the bar" analogy. In a bar, you can't avoid a loudmouth. In the OT, however, you can simply scroll past someone's posts and ignore them. Just post something of interest to yourself, and move the conversation in a different direction.

Once again, I hope that you decide to stay.

"Doc, is life a circus?"

Life is not a circus exactly kazoo but the analogy is apt in some ways.
We enter this world of wonder and amazement not knowing what to expect.
The ring master tells us of all the spectacles and feats of daring that we're about to experience.
At times we are fearful as the lion tamer cracks his whip.
At times we are laughing as the clowns fall over themselves.
We look up at the trapeze artists and see the heights to which some of us can soar and
then back down to the earth far below them, where we are reminded of their mortality.
Wonderful creatures circle us and make us gasp
while others make us sad.
In the end we are all engaged for those few moments ,
as a whole,
our entire humanity marching before us and sometimes
reminding us of how fleeting moments can last forever.

Kazoo, that's exactly what I said a week or so ago. As much as I like everyone here, I think being real-life friends, or even meeting, can make the arguments appear personal, when they are not meant to be taken that way. I'm sure, I'll go to a meet-up whe I can. Heck, I already have seen pics of the guys, but the ladies are all a mystery, so I picture their avitars when they speak.

Hi

Just finished work for the evening
June 11, 2012 12:38 AM - MontroseMorris
"MM has been angry at rob for a long time tho."

Ummm, kindly cease from interpreting my motives and actions. I have NOT been mad at Rob for a long time. I have spent quite a long time ignoring him, over two years, at least, but frankly, I've had it. I'm just one of the few people who won't coddle him, and say "poor rob, you're such a brilliant genius and so misunderstood. Perhaps you should stop saying 'shit babies out', and maybe those awful bitter women will leave you alone, you poor thing."

I also don't appreciate the allusions of the last couple of hours that it is Bxgrl or myself who are the only ones who have a problem with him. We aren't.

And while we're at it, rob is NOT the star of this show, except in his own mind. We all bring our own personalities, quirks and foibles to this place, and we have fun chatting with each other. At least we used to. It used to be a place of equals, and only in the last half year has it been the rob show, all rob, all day, all the time. And it's been less fun to be here day after day.

It's just as well, anyway, I'm going to be way too busy to hang out here. That used to upset me, as I liked hanging out here. Now it won't be as hard to leave. I'm not saying I won't ever post again, but I certainly can see where this is going, and so why worry about it?

Scott certainly was NOT whining, either.

Later.
June 11, 2012 2:01 AM - ilovestoops
For those of you who are newer, almost everyone on this site has expressed disgust over Rob's posts - it's not just a few people. He's self-absorbed, tedious, offensive, and hypocritical. I don't think he should be banned but I do think he should usually be ignored. The reactions to Rob have absolutely nothing to do with us having met in person.
June 11, 2012 7:45 AM - Arkady
I'd venture to say that having met each other in person has made us more tolerant rather than less.
June 11, 2012 7:47 AM - Legion
...hey,

Scott seems to be whining an awful lot.
