Good morning DIBS.

What's up with MM getting all offended on my behalf last night? I wasn't offended. No need for someone to get offended for me. Anyways, it's beautiful out today.

I'll tell you what will drive the stock market later this year: expectations as to where the cap gains tax will be nexy year. If Obama wins, there's going to be a lot of preemptive selling. His proposals are ridiculous and Romney's are far more level headed, including a ZERO cap gains tax for those making under $200,000.

Remember a few weeks ago I was touting IMUC at $2.10 saying it was going to $3.00 shortly. Well it's $3.30 now and they just announced longer term results on their glioblastoma vaccine. My target is $6.00.

New Clinical Data Supports Long-term Efficacy of ICT-107 as 38% of Patients
are Progression-Free After Four Years

ImmunoCellular Therapeutics, Ltd. (NYSE MKT: IMUC), announced today it will
present new data from the previously completed Phase I clinical trial of
ICT-107, the Company’s lead cancer vaccine candidate for the treatment of
glioblastoma multiforme (GBM), at the 2012 Annual Meeting of the American
Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) in Chicago, IL. The abstract, titled
“Correlation of survival with tumor antigen expression in patients with newly
diagnosed glioblastoma receiving a multi-epitope pulsed dendritic cell
vaccine” (Abstract #2087), has been accepted for presentation on June 2, 2012
from 1:15 PM to 5:15 PM, during the Central Nervous System Tumors General
Poster Session. The data will show that there is downregulation of both the
tumor associated antigens that ICT-107 is targeting as well as CD-133, a
cancer stem cell (CSC) marker, in some of the patients. These observations
suggest that targeting antigens highly expressed by CSCs is a promising
strategy for treating patients with GBM.

Updated data from the 16 patients in the Phase I trial shows that patients
treated with ICT-107 reported overall survival (OS) of 50% after four years
and 38% of the trial patients are progression free (PFS) for 48-66 months.
This compares very favorably to historic mean OS of 12.1% after four years and
5.6 % PFS after 48 months with standard of care alone.

Full disclosure, it's my largest personal holding.

yeah, delepp, for weeks she was going around, pointing at all kinds of processed foods and snack products and saying "that's just corn." Insists on grass fed beef, now. She'd love to go vegetarian but knows she's too picky to make it work.

No reason a 7th grader can't be reading well-written, intelligent popular non-fiction. She just finished Nickeled & Dimed and I think Zeytoun is next. I'm happy to get her out of the neverending cycle of mass market fantasy fiction series (Percy Jackson, Hunger Games, Pretties/Uglies etc) and read thought-provoking stuff about real world issues. Of course, if she wants to read anything by Dickens or the Brontes, I'm down with that, too. But, alas. Maybe i'll leave a volume of Gogol short stories lying around.

To mass fires, yes! One hundred stories high
People gettin' loose y’all gettin' down on the roof - Do you hear?
(the folks are flaming) Folks were screamin' - out of control
It was so entertainin' - when the boogie started to explode
I heard somebody say

Burn baby burn! - Disco inferno!
Burn baby burn! - Burn that mama down
Burn baby burn! - Disco inferno!
Burn baby burn! - Burn that mama down
Burnin'!

Satisfaction (uhu hu hu) came in the chain reaction

self destruct, (uhu hu hu)
The heat was on (burnin’), rising to the top, huh!
Everybody's goin' strong (uhu hu hu)
And that is when my spark got hot
I heard somebody say

Burn baby burn! - Disco inferno!
Burn baby burn! - Burn that mama down, yoh!
Burn baby burn! - Disco inferno!
Burn baby burn! - Burn that mama down
Burnin'!

Up above my head I hear music in the air - I hear music!
That makes me know there's (somebody) a party somewhere

Satisfaction came in a chain reaction - Do you hear?
I couldn't get enough, so I had to self destruct,
The heat was on, rising to the top
Everybody's goin' strong
That is when my spark got hot
I heard somebody say

Burn baby burn! - Disco inferno! (Aah yeah!)
Burn baby burn! - Burn that mama down
Burn baby burn! - Disco inferno, yeah!
Burn baby burn! - Burn that mama down
Burn baby burn! - Disco inferno! (Aah yeah!)
Burn baby burn! - Burn that mama down
Burn baby burn! - Disco inferno, yeah!

Lech, I was offended for you. if that's "moral preening", then fine. I really think I'm going to join Snappy and Cobble and take a break from the OT for a while. I come here to chat with friends, and every day ends up the same. I don't enjoy fighting with people, but I'm certainly not going to ignore post after post after post after post after post of rob trashing everything on the planet that he finds objectionable, which is everything on the planet. He trashes hard working people trying to make a living, parents, families, marriage, neighborhoods;you name it. I don't find it amusing, or insightful, or "just rob." He has no concern for how his statements affect other people, in fact, he says things he knows will piss people off, because he enjoys it. Since he doesn't have a filter, and no one requires him to, I'm going to use my filter, and find better things to do. I'm not announcing a blogicide, I leave that to people who like to do that, and then show up again 20 minutes later. I'm just going to cut way, way back. This is no longer fun. You've all allowed one person to totally dominate this site. It's no longer a discussion or a bantering group of friends, it's just mean spirited spewage day after day. No thank you. Here is an undercover video (which is starting to go viral) of a Planned Parenthood clinic advising a woman on how to game the Medicaid system so as to have a sex-selctive abortion (in which, as usual, the point is to avoid a female baby).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U2H3ZDnBtuw

This is the moral depravity of eugenics. Any system of thought and legal construction that allows this to go on is doomed to failure. I can't predict when it will happen, might take a long time, but it will happen, as this is moral depravity.

I agree with MM that the convo always takes that wrong turn, like when mom used to say, "keep it up and someone's going to get hurt". Not five minutes later, someone's crying.

On the other hand, I don't get why the likes of What are not just ignored. Anyone who cannot make a point without using so much profanity is not saying anything intelligent anyway, IMHO.

As far as Rob goes, I like him. I find him very funny at times, but yes, broken record. However, nothing Rob states about his dislikes (almost everything) has anything to do with my life, so it can't bother me.

benson- not only was that an old video, but it was heavily edited. Choice is not about eugenics. It's about having the right to decide for yourself what to do with your body. I don't agree with sex-selective abortion but women do have a constitutional right to choice. And Planned Parenthood offers far more services than just abortions. Perhaps your message would be better directed at places like China and India where sex selection (or even killing after birth) is endemic to the culture. On the other hand, writing legislation that treats women as objects to be controlled or invaded is a moral depravity itself.

The What,

I'm concerned about the Greek exit (nh) and Spain as well.
What do you recommend as a safe harbor if a tidal wave starts across the Atlantic?

...as if you didn't have enough to worry about,
there is actual concern about the possibility of volcanic eruptions on the Azores causing a massive land slide into the Atlantic which would send a 1000 foot wave heading towards us at approx 600 miles per hour.

Benson- as I said, I don't agree with sex-selective abortions at all. But if you want to talk about moral depravity, I think you should look at legislation that insists a woman must have a vaginal ultrasound if she is considering an abortion. Or disallows abortions for victims of rape, incest and even ectopic (read:FATAL) pregnancies. Explain the "moral correctness" of that.

As bxgrl said, the video was heavily edited. To its credit, the same people did post the unedited version which shows a different picture. In the longer video, Rebecca clearly tells the woman that Planned Parenthood doesn’t do sex determination ultrasounds but that she shouldn’t have trouble finding a place that does.
It's the case that throughout history people have tried all kinds of folkways to determine the sex of their babies & it's also true that many wish for girls, not boys. The piece in question is a political salvo.

You don't get to the question of "whether or not this is where we want to be as a country" until you resolve "what it shows." Lots of gotcha videos circulated to advance policy or political agendas go viral that, unedited, do not show what the viral edited versions are purported to show, nor do they say anything about prevalence. Shirely Sharrod is but one of the more blatant examples -- very obvious she was saying exactly the opposite of what was claimed, but done in by a failure to vet the video before reacting.

Of course private equity is involved in both investing in businesses and unwinding them. I never had an eight track but friends did. Pink Floyd's "Money" got interrupted by channel change. When I did radio in HS and college, we had all these one and two minute tapes that looped that we used for promos, PSAs etc. Essentially same format as 8-track cartridge, except much less tape and only two tracks (stereo L&R) on the tape.

Return of You Know Who: Santelli On Capital Flight And Bond Contagion
http://www.zerohedge.com/news/santelli-capital-flight-and-bond-contagion

Rick Santelli gave this topic his special treatment today, pointing out that "capital is detouring - to avoid risk", and outlining just how big a 'crash' lower in yields we have seen among many of the supposedly safest sovereigns as money floods to safe-havens (including UK, US, Japan, Germany, and Holland). What is most important is that Rick outlines why we should care - when all around are yawning on about how cheap 'dividend' stocks must be given low interest rates - since it changes the nature of capital (the life-blood of our markets) from risk-taking to absolute safety-seeking - as he points out that "it isn't necessarily about our own economy's numbers, it isn't even about who we export to; it's the fact that if capital continues to get somewhat impaired, you'll have more data points as investors not only rethink about their capital but everybody rethinks everything in the capital structure that makes business go round."

do you acquire your clothes used? if you do the size written in them can seem off because it depends on how the previous owners wore them or took care of them. like if they dried them in drying machines a lot they will be tight and if they were stretched out tight on the previous owner then they might feel loose on you. improper or imperfect fit is the biggest downsides of being a clothing freegan like myself.

that sounds fun. ill probably stop in for lunch sometime next week for a slice (as long as it's not over 4 dollars) since it's near my job. has anyone here ever shipped their luggage via the mail or fed ex instead of taking it to the airport? im thinking about shipping all my luggage a week or so before via the post office to san diego. I feel like it's so much less of a hassle that way. My connection times for both flights are minimal and i cant be asked to be all frazzled running around with heavy luggage slowing me down.

We do have four dollar slices (which honestly makes me cringe a bit too) but they're loaded with fancy toppings (cured Brooklyn sausage, steak, etc) so they are worth it... compared to those corrupt jerks at South Brooklyn Pizza co who charge 4 bucks for a dinky basic margherita slice... basil and cheese. We're also pretty generous with our slices too. Basic plain slice is 2.50 but I'll get you a discount rob (and a couple of basil leafs to boot) if I'm washing dishes that day.

A pleasure to be here Stoops. Oh and please Benson, we're still basically just a regular neighborhood slice joint. We did actually uncover an original beautiful old tin ceiling that was covered up by a former drop ceiling. Not to mention the theme of the place is a throwback to the historic hobo code. Our logo is the code for 'good food'. Our nearby sister cafe, Pushcart Coffee, also draws upon the Lower East Side's immigrant history, that of the pushcart vendors, and also features a rusted but still incredibly original ornate tin ceiling.

So ha! We're still historic! Either way, come on down Benson. I promise not to throw a tantrum.

Karen Carpenter died of anorexia. Even when women get over the anorexia/bulimia, sometimes the damage done to the internal organs is too great. I think Karen Carpenter actually died of a heart attack fro the stress put on her body. I was once in a museum show with another artist- a young mother actually- who was dangerously anorexic. She looked like she came out of a concentration camp. Her knees were bigger than her thighs.Looked like golf balls on a stick. They were very worried about her and I think she dropped out of the show because she wound up in the hospital.

Whether we'll make it is unclear...we'll be following my itinerary to Ditmas Park (which is out of the way but since we're going thru Prospect Park we may as well) and then Partridge's recs to Bay Ridge.

What are the noteworthy streets in Clinton Hill? Clinton Ave?

I called a chick out for bulimia in the fauxdega the other night. LOADED the whole counter up with random junkfood and a gallon of milk :-/ I only made a comment because I was in a rush and she was holding me up with her ridiculousness and waste of food! I used to be bulimic in college for a while too lol so dont make a comment for my comment to her. YES men can have it too. Of course I've had many disorders over the years that have come and passed for inexplicable reasons... pica, tricholomania, bipolar disorder, cutting, etc. I shouldnt say they were inexplicable cuz if I delve a bit I can clearly see why I was involved in such behaviors at various points in my life. I also think some people are more prone to psychological issues than others and at the same time pass thru them faster than others or not get stuck in them like some people do. Also pica doesnt usually last passed childhood, tricholomania is usually situationally induced, the cutting phases I had i think were partly for attention on some level.. bipolar perhaps not, i think it was just moreso just having a few manic episodes, not necessarily bipolar disorder (which I kinda have issues with the whole naming and diagnosis of that order to begin with). luckily im pretty much self-actualized these days. i think everyone goes through various shit like that in their lives at various times. no biggie.

I've read that anorexia and bulimia are at heart issues of control, not necessarily body image. Young girls feel the need to control their lives and the people around them. I can understand that- I've seen at least 2 chronically ill, very clsoe friends use their illnesses unconsciously to get attention all the time.

Washington is nice too. And Dekalb between the two is beautiful. You can sort of zig-zag--Clinton and Washington are two little blocks apart and many of the streets that connect them, including Waverly that is a carriage-house street between the mansion blocks on Clinton and Washington, are interesting too--Willoughby Greene, Gates, but Dekalb is the beauty. The Clinton Hill Coops on the east side of Clinton are much newer but not much of a distraction--it's a nice-looking if much newer campus.

Rob;

If you want great Sicilian slices, go to Pete's Pizzeria in Gravesend. He's on the corner of Stillwell Ave and 80th Street (ot thereabouts - ask anyone). You can take the "N" train to Kings Highway, and it's a short walk from there.

IMO,and many of my buddies in the area, Pete's Siciilian beats L&B Spumoni Garden's Sicilian, and that is saying a lot.

Next Story - I was on Vanderbilt Ave by the Burnt Calf Restaurant and this Retard is wearing a Kid 'Doogie Hat' Like The Wild Things or some shit. I felt the urge to punch this man in the face!

America is raising a generation of Pussies, Cat Piss Men, Effeminate Tight Jen Ball crushing Punks and guess what? These Assholes come in all colors!

At least in the 60's there was some substance to the revolution. Today it seems more like just a fashion statement as they join the Occupy movement.

I don't think that's ever really been the case, I just think parents these days enable childish behavior in their adult children. I had to move back in with my grandparents after college and they never would have kicked me out. Of course they made it quite clear that I was bordering on pathetic and that we were not all going to be sitting in the living room having family movie night and making S'mores. Do you know the ages of 18-34 (so glad i turned 35 this year. im an adult now yall!) have a NEW classification now!?!?!? NO! that's not ADULT PROPER! it's called Emerging Adulthood :-/ So now we have infant, child, adolescent, adult. we had to add EMERGING ADULT in the the mix?! whaaaa? somewhere a caterpillar screams!

Slopey, you and your daughter (and her mom too!) should really take a look at Brooklyn Tech. In the fall they have tours--I think it's the only big SHSAT school that does it. They are on Mondays at 8 and 3 I think. You get to walk through the school in action. The guy who did most of our tour was the chairman of the math department. He had to leave 15 minutes before the end because he was teaching integrated algebra (standard 9th grade math) because it was the first year the state had changed the curriculum from Math A and Math B for 9th and 10th grade. Got to see labs and teachers and students at work. Later they have an open house where you get to talk to teachers and parents. It really shows you how manageable the school is, even though it's huge.

We were zoned for PS56 when we lived in Clinton Hill. Not a good year for the school, almost all my neighbors with kids got their kids into other schools, mostly public, many also in Dist. 13. What, do you know if it's improved? I've heard it has but I don't know anyone who sends their kids there (but I don't know so many families with little kids anymore). My kid had a couple of friends on the block that went there and it was not a pretty picture, what they were learning compared to what my kid was learning at PS130 in Chinatown.

(unless of course there is no Algebra II and they just call it trig or something in that school, then sorry). Im always interested in what course structures are in schools. For us it was Alg 1 - geometry - algebra 2 - precalculus - calculus (you took calculus if you wanted senior year if you took algebra 1 in 8th grade) I didnt take alg 1 in 8th grade because my grandmother was still at the time working as the crossing guard outside the high school where I would have had to go every morning for period 0 then get on a bus and head back to the grammer school! I dont particularly regret it that much, but 8th grade math was such a joke. They didn't even teach us pre-algebra which youd think they would have. Serious disservice for many students who went into algebra 1 and had a hard time. I never bothered taking any honors classes in math because I wanted to get straight A's and thought it would be too difficult to get straight A's in those honors classes. We had NO AP classes in my high school. I never even knew what an AP class was until people talked about them in college! The only honors classes I took were in the sciences. I took one in history and was like oh fuck no, and took regular US history II the next year. Not worth the time and effort (at least it wasnt for me) to have to be asked to do all that extra work for a class I found seriously beyond boring. These days people make it seem like if you arent loaded up with a full AP schedule you are borderline retarded. wtf? Either the classes are REALLY watered down or most kids dont belong in them to begin with.

I remember one Cazal incident well,
C train going back home.
Dude in maroon sheepskin and Cazals standing by the door.
Stopped at Rockaway Avenue.
"ding dong"
doors closing
Then two sets of hands pulling the dude out practically horizontal with his feet slowly pulled
through the door as the train pulled out.

Cazals.

ah okay, that makes sense. In high school I think the only think (in NJ) we were tested on was the HSPT test in 11th grade and if you failed it you got to take it again in 12th grade. It was basic like like the SAT's (from what I remember, except there was a writing component). Do the SATs now have a writing component? they didnt when I took them in 94. I took them twice, both times my scores did not meet my expectations at ALL. They weren't bad at all either, but I had a big of an inflated ego about how smart I was back then academically, hells I graduated # 24 out of 456 in my senior class. I thought WOW im smart, but I must have gone to school with a bunch of dumb people.

Oh and recently I looked at the list of 300 top public high schools in NJ on some website and my scrolley finger was hurting as I kept going down the list for mine hahahah. It DID make the list tho in the top 300. lol. no clue how many public high schools are in nj.

Rob, don't mail your luggage, it will be WAY too expensive. Remember how that smallish box of goodies I sent you cost me $17? If you really feel the need, spend the $35 or so each way and check them. They'll leave with you in NY and you'll magically be reunited with them again in San Diego a few hours later.

I think you'll be just fine with your rollie cart and backpack. Even though you have to connect a flight, I dont think it was too far, right? My daughter's had the Hello Kitty suitcase Partridge posted lol.

My aunts and uncles were real hippies in SF back in the day. They were born and raised. When one of my uncles got back from Viet Nam, he went directly to the streets as a hippie. He was so cool. Always had pretty hippie girlfriends with their long hair and barefeet and dirndl skirts. His parents seemed cool with it. He was probably on all kinds of drugs, but a very talented musician, and lots of fun to be around.

Older friends of mine talk about going to The City and hanging out at the Filmore with Janis and Jimi on Friday nites (along with a ton of other local and regional bands). On of my friends said he was right up against the stage when Jimi fell off and into his lap. Really cool times I've heard. The Haight-Ashbury is little changed from that time. Still a lot of hippie dippie shops and brightly colored murals.

He wasnt creepy gay, or pedo gay, but he was gay gay gay. and totally in the closet so much so that other teachers would always be like, oh yeah Mr. K? GAY! He was also a major dickbag because he was my senior year ENGLISH LIT teacher, but decided that every day in class we had to have a 5 minute geography quiz cuz he thought we were all ignorant when it came to geography and he was BIG on geography (yeah our school didnt mandate we take any kind of geography class). and yeah we were all pretty ignorant on it. UGH! those geography quizzes used to bring my grades down in that class I used to be SO mad. I went to my guidance counselor (biggest useless fuck EVER) and was like this isnt fair, if he can quiz us in geography in an english lit class why doesnt he also teach us blah blah as well?!?? my complaints when no where. I felt like my counselor was just thinking, oh that's just gay mr. K. :-/ I like most of my teachers but the bad ones are always really REALLY bad.

Im literally having flashbacks right now of the quizzes. It's not like he told us to study the US map or study France and then youll have a quiz. He just made them up as he went along and would tell us to just study the globe! Where do you start!? I got many ZEROs on some of the quizzes as did most of the class. They were SO specific by the way, im talking like a quiz one day would be an african country (and you had to know everything in it? um what?) the next day it would be a map of a country that was totally unidentifiable!?! I think he was a sadist now that I think about it. I bet he's the reason I never got on a fucking plane.

When a missing chilean dhengu started to rot (it was someone's PET) behind the fridge I was like enough is enough. shit was CHEAP as hell up there tho, miss that a lot, but I wasn't going to be raising my dog in a that kind of environment (not that it wasnt mad fun so much of the time). I also want to include a letter in the box for manda's mom thanking her for letting me stay at their place for 10 days and a little gift, so they will get it a few days before I get there.
