GM, I turned off Joe Scarborough this am. Making good on my threat to consume less TV political news coverage. This after hearing some R congressman call Obama Captain Scettino. Then Debbie Wasserman Schultz, Mika B and a few others skewer the congressman on his disgraceful remark....and on...and on....and on.
Today I am going to the BP oil forecast given every January giving a global oil supply and demand forecast. It is always very well done and I'll see some of my buddies.
I have not decided on any new hobbies. I think all the existing ones keep me in enough trouble and are a depletion on my meagre fixed income going forward.
I have to sign a "Release" today, acknowledging my separation agreement but I get 7 days to revoke it due to my age and apparent inability to focus, concentrate or otherwise come to a timely decision.
I went out to dinner with a bunch of southerners last night. You know, the kind of people who all have a favorite football school, as if higher education in the United States existed for the purpose of delivering football to middle-aged men with potbellies. I explained to them that (1) I really don't care about football and (2) in any event, it's a highly homosexual sport. They were strangely unreceptive to my views.
Pete, you'll like it. bunch of big bodies in tights slamming into each other, getting on top of one & another, tons of grabbing, they all want each other's ball, etc
lech...in the south it's just as bad with the women...watch "The Help," an excellent movie, where all the women are all "Ole Miss" it's really rater ridiculous. In the north, I think only "Domers" are as asinine.
"The average weight in the NFL has grown by 10 percent since 1985 to a current average of 248 pounds. The heaviest position, offensive tackle, went from 281 pounds two decades ago to 318 pounds." -- uh, no thanks.

The Hong Kong government has such a huge surplus that it's giving out HKD 6,000 to everyone who carries a Hong Kong ID card. That's about $775 US.
wow. SEE, that is the kind of welfare i can get behind!!!! i hate how in this country the only way you get free monies and bennies is popping out kids you can't afford! i think EVERYONE should be allowed to get some free money when they need it, regardless of income or crotchfruit status. but of course it's ALLLLLWAYS about the children, except that it's NOT about the children at all because it does nothing but to incentivize generational poverty. we are so backwards. we should be more like the hong kongese.
quote:
i've noticed a lot of women wearing big puffy black (faux?) fur coats about waist high this winter. in the shape of bubble jackets. really ugly.
i have a beige faux fur that's a 3/4 coat, as in it's way above waist line. it looks absurd and i feel like a trailer park tranny wearing it. i dont wear any of my rat furs anymore tho. so played out.
A Chinese guy here in NYC told me about that refund. he's leaving for HK tomorrow to get it. I'm assuming he's using it to pay for airfare for a trip he wouldn't ordinarily take but airfare, even for coach (God forbid) has got to be around $700, maybe less with some no frills carrier.
I could never imagine flying coach 18 hours or so to Hong Kong. Never. No wine?????????????
i have a beige faux fur that's a 3/4 coat, as in it's way above waist line. it looks absurd and i feel like a trailer park tranny wearing it. i dont wear any of my rat furs anymore tho. so played out.
*rob*
Despite jester's recent return this will be very hard to beat for GOTD. We shall see.
Shiny, patent leather looking black down jackets have been in for a season or two, maybe the new twist is the waist length part. It is a strange profile and most women don't look good with that shiny black fabric shining up into their face either.
CONGRATULATIONS DIBS.
Maybe I am misspelling Scettino but this was the captain who abandoned the Costa Concordia.
D-Cat. I will send you the presentation electronically. They always give us a link.
referring to Obama as that captain is not disgraceful. Obama abandoned ship right after he was elected. He allowed the economy to sink without even an attempt at a tax cut or a housing relief. Instead it was Obamacare which most of the people in the US were against.
how much are xrays normally at dentists? like an average cost? NOT digital xrays btw cuz those are like 4-5x the price of regular xrays (i assume they arent going doing digital xrays where i go... i hope). im curious because i have a 250 dollar deductible for the dentist per year that i have to pay before any insurance kicks in, so essentially i am assuming the worst today and that my visit just for the xrays is going to be 250 dollars? fucking blows cuz that's essentially all i have left after getting paid yesterday and paying my rent and bills. HELLO ANOTHER TWO WEEKS OF MAD SCROUNGING!!!! I AM SO SICK OF THIS.
benson, I was lucky. when i started travelling there on business for kemper it was business class all the time and i usually upgraded to First; which really spoils you.
I'm going to do an Asia trip later this year. it's LONG over due.
Whoops - an error at Benson News!!! I was thinking that we are already into Wednesday. Donatella - sorry, I failed you. Benson News will not let it happen again.
........as I was passing the magazine stand this morning, I was wondering if Cosmopolitan ever really changes the titles on its cover. It seems to me that every month they just change the photo on the cover, and run with the same headlines:
"Six sex tips that will drive him crazy!!!!"
"Three beauty tips to bring out the new you"
"The latest fashion trends from Paris".
"Get ready for the beach: our new work-out routine!!"
Joseph E. Brooks, a retail executive who doubled the size of the Lord & Taylor chain and made its flagship New York store a showplace of spectacle, including elaborate retail stagecraft and a daily morning rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner,” died on Thursday in Manhattan. Beginning in 1980, during the Iran hostage crisis, Mr. Brooks ordered that “The Star-Spangled Banner” be played each morning at the start of business throughout the store. He wanted to remind people, he said, that “with all its problems, this is still the greatest country in the world.”
Was in the store one early morning b4 xmas when it was played, everyone stopped what they were doing and put the hand over their heart.
Yes, DeLepp but what will continue to be called into question by the namby pamby liberal left is whether or not school children can still recite the Pledge of Allegiance and include "one nation, under God."
“with all its problems, this is still the greatest country in the world.”
It would seem that most of the world actually believes this except for those here trying to tear it apart and send it down a road of a socialist welfare state.
okay so hopefully xrays arent as expensive, still gonna have to fork over the whole deductible anyway because i think i have a cyst in my mouth which is causing three teeth to die. so im gonna need like three root canals perhaps and a cyst draining and who knows what else. obviously they wont be doing all of that today but i assume they will deal with the cyst? if it's a cyst? i did lots of googling on my symptoms.
and you know what im REALLY chary about?!? the last time i was at the dentist for a cleaning they gave me the typical baggie you get with toothpaste and floss and a toothbrush. anyway, that is the toothbrush ive been using since then for a few months now and now all this dental problems? cheap ass brush, the one i had before that was way better. i dont know why i started using the free brush they gave me. plus it's yellow. who uses a yellow a toothbrush, that's just nuts. i will never use their free brushes again, i wouldnt be shocked if the bristles contain pre-manufactured germs and fiberglass particles just to fuck up your teeth so you have to keep going back.
Rob, lots of stuff we put into our mouths are no good for our teeth - cigs, coffee, food,.... Surprisingly enough, a penis might have the least impact to the teeth
quote:
Yes, diagnosing yourself through the internet is always productive. But, if you incyst.
eh. more people should do it instead of rushing off to the emergency room for every little ache and cranny. besides, i've been able to properly diagnose myself correctly 99% of the time. i cannot say that even medical doctors have that high of an accuracy!
Rob, lots of stuff we put into our mouths are no good for our teeth - cigs, coffee, food,.... Surprisingly enough, a penis might have the least impact to the teeth
Little things we tend to forget. brought to you today by m4l.
it was my finger that caused this problem. i was picking at this one spot on my tooth where it meets the gumline, and i really got into it to the point where it hurt. my finger probably was dirty and that most likely caused all of this cuz that's the spot of the cyst now.
A Case Study in Government Ineptitude
or why bureaucracy will always be at odds with efficiency.
As a health care professional, I am licensed by the State of NY with a number.
I am registered with the State of NY with a number.
I have a Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) license and number.
I have a number with the Board of Certification for my field.
I have a Medicare identifier number with the federal Centers For Medicare and Medicaid Services.
I have a "Unique" provider ID number (UPIN).
I have a state issued Medicaid number.
I have a social security number.
A few years back, in an effort to "streamline" things, the Federal government decided to add another number to the mix. A National Provider ID number (NPI) which you will see listed on your doctor's prescriptions along with the DEA number and State License number.
I pay fees to maintain most of these numbers and the bureaucracy behind them.
So, here is my question:
If our government expends billions on maintaining and updating and reviewing and certifying all these numbers and data bases,
WHY, when I call up to update my information with the government, can't they tell me what is in my information file, what numbers I am linked to or for that matter, where I even practice?
...remember how computers were supposed to make everything easier? How they kept telling us the computers can do a billion calculations per second?
Well they're only as good as the people that run them unfortunately. And when it comes to our government, Federal and State, that doesn't seem to be very good.
Amazing that I cannot even access my data file with my own "national provider ID" and update information!
And they cannot tell me if there is anything wrong on file. Because they can't seem to link all the numbers or they don't even have them available!
OWS really distinguished itself in Oakland, don't you think? Imagine if a Tea Party rally had descended into that level of violence and anarchy. Breathless stories of how the US is descending into a fascist nightmare, for sure.
yes, benson, the Oakland situation is disgusting. They really need to start thinking about changing themselves before they try to change the rest of the world.
Re Cosmo, my high school girlfriends and I used to buy that once in a while and viewed it somehow as a teenage boy might view Playboy. We called it the "Slut Magazine". No, it has never changed. Same stories. I read a book by Helen Gurley Br0wn once -- she had this whole "mouseburger" philosophy designed for girls to get ahead with men and work - girls who weren't particularly beautiful, brilliant or rich. It was sort of like "TRY REAL HARD".
I read this book and I was surprised to feel very sorry for her, really sorry for her trying to constantly transform herself into a sexy babe. How tiring. How despressing. How sad to think you had to work SO HARD to be loved.
"Remember, Legion, government bureaucrats are a "C" mentality, at best."
"also in general, people who work in the lower rungs of government jobs are extremely low IQ"
...add NO accountability to the mix and that's a prescription for STUPID.
The most irritating of bureaucrats are the ones that actually have some brain power however,
because they KNOW there's no accountability and use that knowledge to rake the unsuspecting citizen over the coals.
The IRS thrives on this concept.
don't fret bhs. as a former gov't employee I learned that republicans are just a bunch of malcontent whiners and there is nothing that will make them happy. you just learn to ignore and smile.
HP has gotten my address wrong a dozen times - leading edge high tech company.
Blue Cross has to check name, addy, ssn, member i.d., etc. every time I phone.
Ditto Verizon & AT&T.
Numbers are only checks not insurance of i.d. QED = not gov't idiocy.
"What a bunch of shit this morning. No wonder so many people have stopped posting.
I wonder how many other people and classes of people dave will insult before lunch."
My apologies. I was unaware that the best and the brightest, not to mention the most productive people work diligently for the government. They usually get everything correct and are always helpful the first try.
Arkady,
I get your point about numerous private sector companies messing things up on occasion.
However, there is a free market check to those scenarios;
if Verizon or AT&T don't get my address and information right, they don't get paid.
We are talking about numerous government agencies whose entire raison d'etre is keeping a data base of particular individuals.
The government NPI administrator is not providing another service on the side like making sneakers or spying on cell phone conversations. The NPI was set up to make things easier for healthcare professionals and to streamline the gathering of information.
It is amazing to me that not a single arrest has been made in the MF case. Yesterday's WSJ reports that the $1.2B probably will not be recovered - lost in trades and margin calls.
Benson, this will be hard for the gov to NOT arrest some folks here. The public pressure is too great and the rule broken is too important for there NOT to be jail time. "I don't know" will and should NOT be a "get out of jail" answer for the Exec's.
I was listening to the car radio yesterday and they mentioned the "missing" 1.2 billion dollars.
In an effort to give an equal opportunity bashing to the private sector:
Anyone involved in any way with the management of those funds should be tried under the RICO statutes.
As conspirators under Federal law with no chance of parole once convicted.
Yes, I loved the term "vaporized". What that bastard did was pure evil. Casually and dismissively dispensed. On a TRADE, casually destroyed a firm and tossed 3,000 hard working non-master of the universe futures brokers and staff into the dumpster. Ripped off 50,000 non-master of the universe ordinary commodity producers, merchandizers, and consumers who used the futures markets for insurance-like hedging for the economic STABILITY of their enterprises.
Not that I would want to give President Obama any advice,
but it seems to me that it would be a slam dunk for one of his US Attorneys to submit an indictment of a bunch of these fraudsters under the RICO laws for:
Conspiracy and racketeering with a pattern of embezzlement.
Probably true Legion but there are no checks and balances with the public sector, unless they are elected. The bloated governments from the federal down to the city levels are what's going to bring this country down.
Look at it the other way: if Jon Corzine is still roaming free in 6 months, President Obama will have handed the Republicans a golden gift. Jon Corzine, liberal icon, destroyer of lives, still roaming the earth.
I aint no fans of most gov workers but according to my note pad bankers are way ahead of gov workers on how many times they've wrecked the country, the world, etc
I agree with you on that dibs,
there are inherent checks and balances in the private sector. For example, it's hard to commit fraud or steal funds if there are none there to take.
The government (public) sector has the ability to continue funding itself into oblivion because they can mandate it. Look at Solyndra.
Let's not forget that just prior to the MF fiasco, Jon Corzine was on the very short list as the next Treasury Secretary, when "Wooden Indian" Geithner retires.
Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are certainly governmental agencies,
on several occasions during the Bush administration, his Treasury Secretary went to Congress to stop the continued subsidizing and purchase of "high risk" mortgages.
The usual congressional suspects on Capital Hill stopped him in his tracks with cries of Classism and Racism.
Obama returned 50,000 dollars of donations to Corzine. But it is terrifying that he was that close to being Treasury Secretary.
What happened at MF Global was pure fraud. It was a terrible financial crime. I want to see what happens with this case. I cannot believe that he is still walking around.
By the way, apropos of nothing, Timothy Geitner has horrendous diction. I was shocked to see how he swallows his words and mumbles. He is incomprehensible at times. He also speaks fluent Japanese. Also, apropos of nothing.
I suspect someone else will announce it at the lunch. I told the organizer that I'll still be attending every two weeks or so. I have to have some outlet to maintain my sanity after having to put up with all the left wing liberal bullshit here.
Dona, why do you think it is taking so long to go after Corzine???? If this were a Republican administration you can bet the liberal media would be screaming their lungs out over it.
DIBS, safe to assume that you'll sneak in frequently nooners before/after these future lunches - ie so as to maximize your time in NYC. Kind of like Japanese tourists showing up here buying tons of expensive handbags, you'll be ordering all the rough trade that you can squeeze in schedule-wise
DIBS, no Democrat is dumb enough to protect Corzine on this shit - unless corzine has juicy blackmail material on them dudes/dudettes. Politicians rarely stick neck out for anyone if risk:reward curve ain't in their favor and to protect corzine in this scenario is definitely shitty risk:reward curve.
"but what will continue to be called into question by the namby pamby liberal left is whether or not school children can still recite the Pledge of Allegiance and include "one nation, under God.""
Yes, our nation was going to hell in a handbasket until a Christian Socialist wrote the pledge (without the "under God") in 1892. We were still on the downward spiral when Congress officially adopted the pledge (again without the "under God") in 1942. Things still weren't right with the republic until 1954 when those two words were added and things have been peachy keen ever since. So yes, it is of paramount importance that we make schoolkids throughout the land say those two words. Come to think of it, I don't know how we won WWI without them.
"Dona, why do you think it is taking so long to go after Corzine????"
Probably because they are building an airtight case, and don't want to blow it with perp walks and crying family members and pontificating defense attorneys.
No one is howling, because honestly, who cares, outside of NY financial types? People outside of the financial sector, which is most of America, are worried about jobs, job security, and a million other things that affect them every day. Jon Corzine and his company are not on that list. It sucks for those who worked for his company, and I hope they get him good, but whether he's in jail, or sitting at home, or in Fiji, really doesn't put a dollar in most people's wallets. It has absolutely nothing to do with "liberal media" or Democrats, or Republicans, for that matter.
You could not be more wrong about the impact of MF. As was well documented in many newspapers, and as Donatella alluded to, MF's biggest customer class, by far, was family farmers. They used it to hedge on crop prices.
Unlike the mortgage crisis, which does have some shades of gray, this is as black and white a case of fraud as there can be. They violated one of the fundamental rules of a fiduciary institution: they dipped into the accounts of their customer, without authorization, to make big bets (in the hopes of a windfall that they would keep).
rf -- your avatar makes everything you post sound so much better. I get to hear Maggie Smith saying it (though Julie Kavner's voice has a certain charm, too).
Bad news is hitting consumers who filed 1040 federal income tax returns early. They're going to wait possibly a week or so longer than expected to get refunds as the Internal Revenue Service attempts a tougher crackdown on criminals who file fake returns to snag illegal refunds early in the season.
We got news of one such case involving a group out of Detroit this week.
John Hewitt, CEO and founder of Liberty Tax Service, based in Virginia Beach, Va., said taxpayers who filed returns any time from the first day of the tax season, Jan. 17, through Jan. 24 are facing potential delays.
"Usually, the refunds take a week to 10 days," said Hewitt, adding that refunds are likely to take up to 14 days.
Federal officials say that a group of metro Detroit tax preparers submitted at least 352 fake tax returns using names and Social Security numbers of the dead in an attempt to obtain more than $800,000 in refunds, according to court documents.
"The delay was caused by new safeguards installed in IRS computer systems to prevent refund fraud, IRS spokesman Michelle Eldridge says. The problem is limited to taxpayers whose returns were filed before Jan. 26. Taxpayers whose returns were accepted on or after that date will not be affected, Eldridge says." - USA TODAY
Rob, to expect your tax preparer to stay current with all the little notices and news and such at the level you seek, you need to hire and PAY an actual accountant.
DIBS deserves this. He KNEW this would happen and the kind of shit he would get but yet he CHOSE to do it again - ie am wondering if he is enjoying this kind of PUNISHMENT
Besides which, rob, you're always complaining about people cheating on their taxes. The IRS is delaying by a couple of lousy days, in order to catch tax cheats. You should be glad they are taking to time to try and prevent fraud, which costs all taxpayers money.
quote:
I'll remember that the next time you prattle on against someone else getting handouts.
what?! how is dave doing my taxes a hand out!?!? are tax payers paying for it!? no. now if i did it myself for "free" on the IRS website than taxpayers monies would be being used cuz it costs money to maintain servers and shit.
hmm good point MM. it's still frustrating. i went to the irs site just now too and there is no info available of when ill get my refund. and i sent it in LAST WEEK
"what?! how is dave doing my taxes a hand out!?!?"
Because someone fucking did it for you for nothing!!!! And now you complain that he didn't monitor news about IRS processing of returns. You expect him to do that for you for free, too? And that's not a handout? Tell me, then, what you did to earn free tax news monitoring by dibs?
Can't bnelieve I responded to that. Rob, too bad there's no market value in internet bait. You could open a bait shop and afford a CPA for next year's filing.
Alright, we'll call it a favor. Now, since you want to be careful about terminology, what word would you use to characterize someone complaining to a person who did a free favor that his proficiency was not up to snuff with a paid professional?
quote:
what word would you use to characterize someone complaining to a person who did a free favor that his proficiency was not up to snuff with a paid professional?
Rob, remember what I told you about being an ungrateful twat? well....prime example is your bitching above. Good luck getting someone else next year to do your taxes :o/
i am not an ungrateful twat. margaret thatcher is an ungrateful twat, hillary clinton is an ungrateful twat, shakespeare was an ungrateful twat. i am not.
Thatcher, Clinton, Shakespeare, rob. I feel as if I am on Sesame Street and getting ready to sing/play "one of these things is not like the others . . . ".
bitching is totally different complaining ken. i wasnt bitching at dave's mistake, i was complaining about the timing of my filing! it's mostly my own fault for being so gong ho on filing so soon.
Kens, I have strong suspicion that DIBS likes this punishment else he wouldn't be doing it - ie he aint dumb enough to not anticipate this when all of us see it coming.
MM, Did you do any consumer products design before? We have a couple of openings that might be a fit for you. I think you know the company I work for so just look on our website for current opening in NYC.
I want to answer dibs question re MF but I am in this great presentation. MM is right in the sense that they are building a case and the accounting is very complex. The rules for managing customer collateral has been expanded making the use of customer funds in this case murkier than was once the case. But MM is incorrect about the importance of this. As Benson said it has affected family farmers but large farmers, utilities, energy companies, merchandisers as well as institutions hedging consumption of commodities-- it has broad damaging effects on these entities WHO HIRE REAL HUMANS. It also under
In addition to undermining the true social utility of these markets.
LEGION....we occasionally get a guy named ben gaynes at lunch. he's knows EVERYTHING about what goes on in Washington. Congress has another 109 days in session. They will accomplish two things and two thing ONLY during that time period:
1. Extension of the payroll tax cuts
2.Postpone the 30% physician pay cut from Medicare
And no one wants to comment on the article and chart I attached ranking Super Bowl halftime shows on the Kinsey scale? [Yes, I know it's offensive -- that's why I posted it HERE, rather than emailing it to my brick and mortar friends.]
Is there a memo out there that states that henceforth Super Bowl half-time shows should be reserved for aging acts trying to get back in the limelight?
"it's sorta like annoying yelpers who criticize chefs at 5 star restaurants who can't make a grilled cheese themselves"
This is why I find the term "foodie" SO FUCKING ANNOYING. These people plather on and on about everything but couldn't poach an egg if their life depended upon it, let alone know what goes in the bernaise.
some mighty harsh words today. you people do realize it took dave like TEN minutes and the cost of a stamp to do my taxes, right? it's not like he donated a kidney to some child at st. jude's or anything. jeez
some brokers are trying to establish new lows. a dude just told me that the rent stabilized tenant in the apartment (that he is trying to pitch to me) can be given the boot after his current lease is up. dude is either that clueless or he thinks I'm that stupid - ie as if I literally just hopped off the beached ship from China
Like I said, I'm retiring today and that means retiring from everything. rob will have to do his own taxes next year. They don't call it 1040 EZ for nothing!!!!!
you people do realize it took dave like TEN minutes and the cost of a stamp to do my taxes, right? *rob*
That's ten minutes that he could have been crusing silverdaddies or doing some other productive things. From the way you complain rob, I would rather spend those ten minutes picking my nose than devoting to do your taxes.
Stop it. Just stop it. I'm sure Legion could do a routine exam in 10 minutes too. It only takes 10 minutes because he has a lifetime of learning behind it.
"What a bunch of shit this morning.
No wonder so many people have stopped posting.
I wonder how many other people and classes of people dave will insult before lunch."
Not sure what this is about, as this morning's OT looks rather tame to me.
Speaking for myself, and I think I can safely (or not) speak for Biff, neither the content of the OT, nor anything anyone, most especially dave, has posted has anything whatsoever to do with why neither of us has posted much lately. We're just swamped is all.
Besides, hard as dave tries (nh) to drive us off with his anti-JEWish and anti-Canadian slurs, he hasn't yet succeeded.
Heya Benson. Since I am on the roll today, Joe's of Avenue U sucks :o).
I haven't been there in years and was so excited to go get lunch there like a month ago and it was totally terrible. Barely any Italians in the place anymore (I think they replaced all of the cooks with either Albanians or Yugoslavians). What a shame :o/
"you people do realize it took dave like TEN minutes and the cost of a stamp to do my taxes, right?"
That is not the point. The point is you bellyaching about dibs not telling you about something else outside of the favor you asked him to do. You seem to think you are entirely entitled to have had dibs be knowledgeable about and then warn you about a very recent development at the IRS that is apparently (1) inapplicable to you and (2) a public good that will catch tax fraud.
Seems like Italians do not open restaurants in your old stomping grounds anymore. Some pizzerias are still decent and have decent kitchens but that's about it.
BTW, Try Giovanni's Brooklyn Eats on 16th and 8th.
http://www.giovannisbrooklyneats.com/
That's the same guy who used to run Sette on 7th ave by Methodist Hospital. I see a lot of old school Italians eating there and everytime I have been there, it has been very good. Very reasonable prices and very simple food but good pasta and cooked just right. Not large portions but I kind of like that so I have portion control.
rob's a MORON. What difference does it make what day he files if everything is backed up???? If he waited until Feb to file it'd still take 10-14 days.
Besides, this is why it's good practice not to allow the 99% with too much money all at once..they inevitably piss it away on cigarettes and low quality alcohol. Cripes, he won't even spend any of it to get laid.
Speaking of Italians, benson, have you tried Piccoli yet? Corner 14th Street and 6th Ave. Neighborhood joint, nothing fancy, but really good risotto and pastas. Not at all an old school red sauce place, but everything is nicely prepared (and still byo, so you save $$).
I need to try the new place at 8th Ave/Prospect Ave run by the folks who used to run Sette on 7th Ave/3rd St. I actually used to live in that storefront 25 years ago -- 1st "apartment" after college.
Slopey, it's very good. simple, reasonably priced and good. Pasta always cooked right (seems like a simple task but lots of places either undercook or overcook) and all desserts made inhouse and are excellent.
Awesome benson. Their brunch deal is very good too. Appetizer and entree (which is pretty big) and unlimited mimosas, bloody marys, coffee, tea for 17 bucks.
You know what place I really miss in your neck of the woods? Magnolia. I liked everything about that place: the ambiance, the service and the food, of course.
Oh, and early onset alzheimers is going to be a problem for me. I was talking about a case with a colleague and accidentally mixed up a PLUSA login with a witnesses's name.
A few years back, I mean. I haven't been since it became Soigne. Looks too pricey for what it is.
But 6th Ave, 11-20 Streets is the new restaurant row -- Bar Toto, Soigne, something Wolfe's, Piccoli, Athena, Lot2, that bar with the brick oven pizza on 20th and the pizza/Italian place across the street from it.
I tried googling it, m4l and just got instructions on how to open up the insides. I think her best bet is to hail some kid in off from the street and let them do it!!!!!!
Former RBS Chief Fred Goodwin Is Stripped of Knighthood (2)
Jan. 31 (Bloomberg) -- Fred Goodwin, Royal Bank of Scotland Group Plc’s former chief executive officer, was stripped of his knighthood by the U.K. authorities after he led the 285-year-old lender into the world’s biggest bank bailout.
if only it were a government designed computer - then you could make some knee-jerk criticism and make derisive comments about gov't workers, etc like certain people do around here.
MM, did you look online? there are a couple of jobs that I thought of. There are plenty of unqualified people here so if it seems remotely that you might be an ok fit, apply. You really have nothing to lose.
DIBS, that dude in your vid was pressing on some small remote of some sort prior to him openning the laptop - not sure if that was the laptop or something else. if for laptop, that's stupid design. but this is getting to be desperate times, look for that thingie shown ~2:40 or so in the vid
Ex-bf just phoned - I'd emailed him since he has the same unit. He said he'd done the exact same thing. And the guy at Samsung told me the logo should be rightside up which is the opposite of how it should be. (But I do feel pretty stupid.)
1. Arkady, wtf? 48 minutes?
2. dibs, wtf? 48 minutes without recommending she try opening the other end?
3. Samsung, wtf? You couldn't tell a customer in 14 minutes that she was trying to open the hinged side of the laptop you manufacture?
A government employee would have formed a committee an hour ago and have had meetings about it already. Union reps would need to be present in case they started accusing each other of being morons.
"A government employee would have formed a committee an hour ago and have had meetings about it already. Union reps would need to be present in case they started accusing each other of being morons."
Don't change the subject. This was a private sector failure, pure and simple.
Yeah, right Slopey. Some MORON can't tell the front from the back and it's a private sector failure??? You sound like the type of people who want to legislate all those extra safety precaution labels all over everything.
Every actor in this little drama -- the customer who couldn't figure out the product, the manufacturer who could not explain how to open its product, the hedge fund guy who stuck his $.02 cents in, etc. -- is on the private side. No government activities, regs, etc. are implicated in any way.
Ok, got a little break. Great presentation on World Energy Outlook to 2030 by BP.
I have to go somewhere in a minute but wanted to make a toast to DIBS on this important day.
Best of Luck to you! You worked hard and planned well and I hope this time of your life is full of interesting projects, fun, good relationships, what your heart wants most.
And no, I don;t think we need more govt regs to make sure arkady joins the 21st century and can find the unhinged end of a laptop. But it is quite a stretch to use this little episode to take a gratuitous swipe at government.
What is going to happen with natural gas is that near term there will be production shut in because of the massive increase in supply and storage and pipelines filling up to the point that there is no choice. It is the increase of supply met with trapped supplies and a very very warm winter. Re calling the equity plays there, this is etson's expertise, but it looks like there will be several bankrupcies by some smaller players. This presentation was on broad trends going out to 2030.
Arkady, Samsung and Asus have the nicer looking form factors across the brands. just waiting for the ultrabook version to come out in Q2 then it's decision time. This replaces your IBM one right?
"Every actor in this little drama -- the customer who couldn't figure out the product, the manufacturer who could not explain how to open its product, the hedge fund guy who stuck his $.02 cents in, etc. -- is on the private side."
"But who built the roads that the computer was transported on? Who is responsible for the educational standards that led to the manufacturer's and customer's shortcomings? Who minted the two cents to stick in to the conversation?"

just got back from the dentist. the xrays showed that nothing is wrong. yet im still in pain! he said to use sensodyne for 4 weeks and in about 2 the pain should go away. is this pain all in my head!? that sucks. but they didnt charge me for the office visit and insurance covered the xray so no money out of pocket
Not going to talk about individual names, but seasonally forced shut ins for nat gas would come in late summer / early fall. I don't think at this point widespread bankruptcies are likely but may be some small ones here & there.
no drama queen here pete! i dont normally complain about shit, but seriously this pain is awful and im not one of those nutty hypochondriacs. maybe the Universe is just punishing me
What's not to understand? There are several reasons why nat gas might be shut in, but the system as a whole is at its fullest in late summer. Gas is injected into storage all spring / summer and withdrawn all winter, so storage levels peak in late summer / early fall. This is because weather is the biggest single driver of demand patterns.
This means that wells in some regions will not be able to be connected to the system and the gas will not be sold, or some wells will have to have their production curtailed because there is nowhere for it to go. So gas producers make very little money under such a scenario.
If it's 'shut in' you're having trouble with, that's common terminology for 'not produced' or in this case 'unable to be produced'.
there is a notice on my building, official looking that we are switching from oil to oil and gas, or part time gas or something like that... im really scared there's gonna be some sticker shock when the rent renewal comes up this year :( they redid the facade of every surface of the building, new boiler, new washing and drying machines, brand new walls in couryards, and that's just the stuff ive seen. this has all been in the last year. do you think my landlord is gonna get greedy and gouge people when the renewals come up?!
It stays in the well, rf. Shut ins don't usually last long enough to cause issues with pressure in the well. More mature wells are not at maximum pressure anyway because much of the gas has already been produced.
question.. ive never paid a bill online before. tomorrow im going to deposit cash into my bank account and then pay my student loan online... i just went to see how to do it and one of the things they ask for is "account nickname" wtf is that? i know my account number, routing number, name, and bank name, but what is account nickname?
rob, that allows you to assign a name to an account vs recognizing via the acct #. for you, this is likely no value-add but is quite handy for folks with a ton of accounts.
Academy Award winner Shirley MacLaine will join the cast of Downton Abbey for its third season, which is set to premiere on ITV in the U.K. this fall and will air on PBS's Masterpiece Classic early next year. When shooting on the period drama, created by Julian Fellowes, resumes next month, MacLaine (Terms of Endearment) will join the cast of the multiple Emmy and Golden Globe winner, where she will play a new character, Martha Levinson, the mother of American-born Lady Grantham (Elizabeth McGovern).
agh okay, so i wont have to put in anything for account nickname? also if i pay like this month online, are they gonna automatically try and take money out of my account NEXT month when the next bill is due? i dont want them to automatically try to take out money as chances are it might not be in my account? i just want to do this to save stamp and money order money.
Rob, I've learned from DIBS' mistake. further consultation will cost you some $$$ so it'll be worth my while when you give me shit later on for the answers
It is amazing to think that before WWII a lot of natural gas was just burned off as it left oil wells. There was little infrastructure in place to transport it and use it, and it was just considered a useless by-product of the oil extraction process.
Question to our energy experts: from what I've read, due to recent finds and fracking, the US has enough proven natural gas reserves to meet our energy needs for at least 100 years. So what is preventing us from moving to an economy more based on natural gas?
Speaking of Nuremberg, here's the transcript of a Gingrich robocall in Florida:
"As governor of Massachusetts, Mitt Romney vetoed a bill paying for kosher food for our seniors in nursing homes — Holocaust survivors, who for the first time were forced to eat non-kosher, because Romney thought $5 was too much to pay for our grandparents to eat kosher. Where is Mitt Romney’s compassion for our seniors? Tuesday you can end Mitt Romney’s hypocrisy on religious freedom with a vote for Newt Gingrich. Paid for by Newt 2012."
Six, I'm sitting here eating some reheated turkey soup at the moment. Next step it'll be cans of cat food!!!! So I'm not sure if that's off to a good start or not
LOL, benson. Nor would I want to spend my declining years walking elitist liberals back to their homes with the PS Food Coop shopping carts with a high likelihood of getting hit by a black car making a u-turn.
Somebody at Slomin Shield must have woken up. They now are using an articulate guy to explain the system instead of those screaming yelling idiots with the bad Brooklyn/Queens accents!!!!!!
worse. now major constipation (because one MD at hospital insist he take iron pills for what I think is only mild anemic condition).
Horrible day here. stuck inside whole time.
If you aren't leaving, then you definitely need to just get out for a run/walk/stroll/change of scenery during the day. An hour or so should be ok, no?

lmfao, i cant stand those twatwaffles who have people cart their groceries for them up the hill from the food co-op. i'm always like is that really necessary? you cant carry those two bags yourself? i would find it akward, from both perspectives.

im actually not a fan of most accents, i deal with them all day long from all over Earth. i think that nyc accent is easier to understand, as uncouth as it actually sounds. there are some accents where i have to make people repeat what they said like 5 times. my hearing problem doesnt help all that much, but im pretty sure it's mostly the accent. im good getting spanish accents, waspy accents, and that old school nyc accent. im awful with the more obviously hard to get accents.. french, german, REALLY bad with italian (from italy) accents, canadian accents (actually canadian accents can be easy to understand unless they are french canadadian but they give me heart burn). ive encountered many accents that i could not decipher what country it was from or even what region which is really strange cuz if you dont automatically know what accent it is it sounds like gibberish. another accent i cant stand? sorry, but i find this to be the case. women, usually under 30, talk like they have marbles in their mouths when it comes to generic newscaster accent, it's really awful. i find southern accents to be medium comprehension wise, but they always make me giggle for some reason. and then there's a very VERY distinct scholar from new england accent that is just off the hook obnoxiously strange.
today I stayed in only because of the pain and trying 'to get things moving'. I did make it to CVS couple of times.
Other days - have been to the pool(to swim) complex at SwimmingHallofFame...walked there yesterday -is at the beach....walked thru all these 1% blocks with yachts as big as brownstones parked in front of their personal docks.

Hope it's not like Rob, who wants to go to work on his vacation days.
you make it sound like that is something i normally would say on a vacation day. it's not. october-december sometimes i use my vacation days (they expire every year on new years) and take fridays off. those are AMAZING vacation days. ive done the whole thing before where i took off a week in a row, once a week and a half. gah! and honestly those are not worth doing unless you really are going on some vacation (sorry, but going places on the internet gets boring after day 2 or so). what i SHOULD do is start planning actual vacations to go places around the time i get my tax refund. 1/2 of my tax refund this year will be going to get that one molar finished with it's crown (the post and core are in, and the root canal done, just need to finish the last part...), but i still have the rest left and plan to go down to south carolina to visit my grandmother.
it's sort of a test for me.. like, as in, if i actually DO get down there im going to be very proud of myself, and if i DON'T get down there which pretty much everyone is betting on happening im gonna be really pissed off at myself. but i think as soon as i get my refund im going to buy a ticket as last minute as possible to get the cheapest rate and just assume that tickets are non refundable. then im mailing my grandmother 100 bux from the refund a few days before i get down there cuz i really dont wanna show up totally broke and busted. her deceased son's baby momma wants to take me out on the town in charleston, and it would be gauche to show up with no money.
well ill be damned, i think i just formed the perfect plan for this trip. oh crap. wait, does amtrak or whatever require a non expired ID? shit shit shit shit. i completely forgot about that. im going to do that this week. how long do you think it takes to get your ID in the mail? they give you a temp ID right in the meantime? can that be used to get a train ticket? or is it totally not necessary. i might also take a bus. i dont know which would be better, taking a bus or a train. i actually prefer buses (like snappy) but i dont know if the length of a bus ride would be annoying. isnt it like over 12 hours? what if i dont get a seat? are you guaranteed seats on those kinds of long ass drive buses? actually when i used to take the bus to port authority in jersey if the bus was crowded i would just pop a squat on the floor and never had a problem, so id probably do that if i didnt get a seat.
they might appear rich, and they definitely ARE rich, but something tells me they arent exactly the 1%. more like the 5-10% who just wanna have FUN WITH THEIR MONEY instead of being a creepy teepee weirdo like nanny bloomberg who has gazillions of dollars and decides to be something as pedestrian and blah as being mayor of nyc. i mean if that's not the definition of psychopath, i dont know what is. be honest, if you had billions of dollars, would you work!?!? especially at a job like mayor of a giant city!? that's just ego and shit. what does he actually get out of it? making the city 10x more unaffordable for people? he blows. i do give him credit on some things tho, he's not totally awful and he seems to have a sense of humor about the whole thing. but i just feel that having a mayor that is a billionaire makes the prices of everything in the city he governs over get SO expensive. and YES it is very much like ice cream and moonfaces. no one finds it the slight be strange that since he has been mayor that the prices of everything has skyrocketed and the cost of living is almost unbearable? i dont particularly want a poor mayor in the office because they actually bring the city they govern down in immense ways via crime, blight, etc. is there no middle ground? i wasnt a fan of cross-dresser transvestite guili@ni because he tried to stomp down on fun stuff in the city. that's all i really know about him. his cross dressing and his trying to get rid of fun, and his whole 9/11 stuff. before that who was there? kotch, dinkins? (i dont even remember which one was first...) they were supposedly good mayors right? i read a few chapters of some book about kotch awhile back but i got bored. is there any good book about dinkins? id love to read that. who was before them?

:-/ yeah cuz THAT's what we need more of. MORE pillhead junkies shitting all over the place in public. the R train on prince street in soho, BOTH SIDES, has a notorious problem with human shit taken behind those black boxes and on WALLS! gross. and sometimes it's not cleaned up for days, or barely cleaned up. it's the only train stations ive seen this being a MAJOR problem ALL the time.
lol sixyears. no not flying, taking a train or bus. someone (here i believe) told me that you can get cheaper train or bus tickets the closer it is to the date of departure? was that person giving me bad advice? so not only does my tax accountant not give me the best advice to save money, but now a pro bozo travel agent is also giving me ill advice? :-/
Guess we have different definitions of 'afford' and 'yacht'.
Threshold for 1% of income = $350- $500,000 depending on the survey. Think threshold for 1% of net worth is about $1.5mm.
Decent yacht = $1mm ish +. Don't know cost to maintain but assume mid five figures p.a.
As a threshold 1%er you could probably just about do it I guess but would have to cut out a lot of other 1% stuff.
Don't know about greyhound, rob, but boltbus and megabus will get you at least as far as dc and it's way better to plan in advance with them. DIBS would know about train tix.
bad night for newton. but as I said yesterday --- negative campaigns work.....and there were at least 10 ads bad-mouthing gingrinch as there were anti-willard.
I will support the Romney candidacy, financially and otherwise. I know better than to expect substantial change, but I think we will be better off overall with a Romney presidency than another Obama term.
Being president these days is kind of like, I don't know, being captain of a stricken boat in a storm or something. There is only so much you can do to change the direction of the boat, but the passengers would like to be comforted.
Not that there is any possibility of my voting for Obama, unless I flip the wrong lever.
Just my level of enthusiasm for Mitt is low enough that I'd vote for a minor candidate if he irritates me.
Hey All,
Long time, no talk. Gabby's going to be on vacation next week so I'll be back in the saddle for a few days. Please stop by and say hello. I've missed (most of) you.
Mr. B
p.s. We've been working hard to fix the commenting problem for those of you who got f'd over by Disqus. Hopefully a fix will be in soon.
I'm surprised that Romney did as well as he did in Florida. I thought there would be a backlash against the mauling of Newt. Anyway, I'm with Etson. If it's Romney, so be it. Not crazy about him, but considering the alternative, I'll take him.
Well, I'm (almost) speechless! Is someone playing a joke on us? No offense, Mr. B, but I'm a little surprised, no make that a lot surprised, to see you here! And asking us to come visit! Will there be bagels? Cocktails? Perhaps a 'Welcome Back, PLUSAs' banner? ; )
right?!? are we all to guess now who should and should NOT post over there? most admins ban the bad apples out right, and dont ban an entire group of people based on affiliation. i still never got a real reason why i've been banned EIGHT times. im not a troll, im not a scroutch, and im not a yelpy-shilley-kissass. so what gives? same for others who were banned. ive wanted to comment on brownstoner on many a threads recently, but figure i guess it's best not since comments that dont jive in line with popular opinion are frowned upon (that's the case with most online communities). i like places on the internet where you can say what you want, freely, HELLO IT'S A RIGHT IN THE CONSTITUTION, without being squelched and stuff.
i still <3 Emily and her rental reports. dont get rid of her. Montrose is obviously amazing *duh*. cara seems like a butt-kisser. and gabby only posts on shit-stirring subjects.
lechacal, sounds like you shouldn't come back. rob, doesn't sound like you want to. no worries. and not to rehash, but the group was never banned. the OT was removed. anyway, we'd love to see any old-timers who felt like stopping by. signing off...
I'll say what I've been telling you for quite some time: I don't get you. You still won't simply apologize for what you did that day, which was more than pulling the plug on the OT. You trash-mouthed the PLUSA's from one end of that thread to the other. As I told you at the time, I've never seen a proprietor trash patrons that way, and it was not a heat-of-the-moment type of thing. If you had simply come on the site and said you wanted to take it in a new direction, who would have objected? But that's not what you did, is it? Moreover, you come back here and still drop some hints of venom (missing most of us?).
Good luck to you. Hope the site continues to do well.
"I'm exhausted. Tired of this medical field already. especially this non-paid position."
This is why I'm telling you that you MUST get out more. The patient will not die if you leave for the beach for two hours. Set him up with what he needs, tell him when you'll be back. Take your cell phone in case of emergency...and off you go.
well, that could be a recipe(bowl of testicles) for low-T. when did all those commercials start?
those drug manufacturers certainly are quite creative dreaming up new conditions to worry about.
hey -- what happened to my last comment. musta mr. b that deleted it.
I said something about how the bowl of testicles could be great treatment for low-T. and when did they dream up that new condition? drug companies are really creative giving you something new to worry about.
About a year ago my MD told me I had low T and asked me if I felt that might be the case. I just laughed. It went back to normal last time I was there.
My dad's doc said they routinely give patients stool softeners when they are in the hospital and in rehab. He got constipated when he got home too. (For hip replacement)
I just checked back in. I am under 40, as is lech.

bitch, please. we'd ALL look younger than our age if we were doctors and can give ourselves our own medical care :-/ dont take this the wrong way, but ive always wanted to know, do doctors give themselves their own prostrait exams and feel up their own boobies and balls? and who do you bill?
That's Kristen Wiig. She was in bridesmaids and got her start on SNL. M4L says we look alike. I like her attitude, though Rob said it looks like I just farted and dont give a rats.

and who would i be settling down with? the bums outside the Keyfood parking lot? having slappy catfights over the last can of store brand tuna? my standards are too high, and i have very little to offer, it's not like im clueless about WHY im an autosexual. i can't be asked to do the whole relationship thing these days anyway. people are so fucking needy, especially the gays... and then they just wind up sleeping around anyway. so, yeah. pointless.
plus i bet i suck in bed. im a total platherer blah blah blah blah blah blah non stop unless my mouth is working and since i dont like sucking dick and dont like taking it in the butt, im pretty much useless as a gay man.
well, obviously you've been checking craigslist so you haven't ruled it out totally.
but there are probably better sites if you are serious.
have you tried 'christiansingles'? do they have a men for men section?
i dont know if i have good "genes" my grandmother is like 100 and her mother lived to like 1000. everyone else died mad early. personally im of the opinion that there is no reason to live past a certain age if it becomes pointless and monotonous. i know for a fact i will NOT be collecting social security, and that doesnt bother me.

Rob, you've been writing graphically about sex recently. Is this the first stop on the road to having some?
ew, no way. after im done masturbating and watching porn, i get those overall GROSS feeling all over my being. if i fucked someone these days i'd probably slap them in the face, steal their wallet, and storm out the door in a big giant hissy fit that would be really faggy. it's just not me, and im cool with that. i have a very good sex drive, but i dont want to share it with other people. im selfish.
:-/ do i look like a divorced frau in her mid 30's?! do i look like someone who is afraid of their own looks they hide behind a computer screen? match what? me? good luck
cobble, they're brothers, and the people at the rescue org and the foster family would love it if they could be adopted together. They love playing, napping, etc. together. So, yes, they would keep each other company while I'm at work.
Biff and the Champs and I took a field trip to North Shore on Saturday. But they were apparently having an adoption event, so when we got there, almost every dog was already in the process of being adopted.

jb, they were rescued from a high kill shelter in South Carolina after being found on the side of a road with their mother when they were only about 3 months old. They were brought to NYC by a local rescue group and are in foster care in Valley Stream right now.

How much would Fulgencio charge to shove tomatoes down Rob's pants?
probably nothing as im not a gazillion years old and dont own a gazillion homes so what would be in it for Fulgencio?!?!? seriously, THAT/THIS is the problem i have with gays and women in general. they are only out to get what they can get. relationships have nothing to do with actual bonding and shit, it's all about what they can get. barf.
They're about 40-50 lbs. and won't get all that much bigger. I'm told they're very friendly and great with kids of all ages, which is important. I'm going to meet them tomorrow or Thursday.
jessi, the adoption process and application/contract you have to sign is designed to avoid someone doing just that. There's a woman who wants to adopt one of them, but they prefer me as I expressed interest in both of them.
I had a teddy bear as a child (until the woman staying with us while my parents were away threw Shlumpy in the trash) who smelled like Funny Bones because I apparently smushed them all over him.

and yes, i view the democrat part as welfare central. it's never gonna help me unless i miraculously grow a uterus, but whatev.
More often than not, people have just one dog in NYC. Two 50lbs dogs are a lot to have in an apartment. Plus, Cgar can make a deal with the other woman who's interested and maybe get a date out of it too.
Actually, jb, Biff's and my friends who live in my building have 3 dogs! And for a number of years, I had the CDog and a Samoyed when I lived on Carroll Street. I was looking for only 1 dog, but I'm thinking they're brothers and so good together, so why not.
My dog was a refugee from the South too. She was owned by a family that had to give her up after the BP oil spill. They lost their jobs, and brought her to a shelter. It was a kill shelter, however, and North Shore rescued her from there.
You won't go wrong with North Shore. They're great.
benson, I was all set to adopt from North Shore last Saturday, but they literally ran out of dogs for adoption! So, I emailed Lab rescue groups through Petfinder.com.
Well clearly I dont know anything about dogs, but I guess I'm saying it probably can't hurt to hold out a little longer and end up with just one if that's what you really want. Good luck!
"clearly I dont know anything about dogs" -- try 'christiansingles' , 'jewdate', craigslist or whatever. guaranteed you'll find the one of your dreams.

this is why i prefer getting dogs from random people that KNOW YOU. serious, making adopting a dog as hard as renting an apartment in NYC these days? fuck off.
after Duke is gone, i will most likely plather on about not wanting another dog, but i WILL get one. having to jump thru hoops just to adopt an animal that is not wanted? wtf? credit check, apt check, criminal check, etc etc? go fuck yourselves. most people who pass all of those dont adopt dogs anyway, DUH.
im a loving, caring person, who is willing to spend x and y amounts of money on a dog and you are telling me i can't do that? stupid and backwards. im gonna go apeshit if in a few years i run into trouble adopting a dog outright.

my dog (Duke) was rescused from a crack house in jersey.
Last night PLUSAs were very funny. I was exhausted from the day and fell asleep early. And woke up to take a peek at what was said but was too late. I felt that my two cents weren't needed anyway. You all said it so well. Lech the most colorfully, Benson, the most logically and Jessi....brilliant question.
Today I am going to the BP oil forecast given every January giving a global oil supply and demand forecast. It is always very well done and I'll see some of my buddies.
Have a good day losers.
Curious to hear about the BP report. I am long energy stocks, including BP.
This is of course because they have a flat tax and ZERO tax on dividends.
Live long and enjoy yourself!!
The afternoon staff at Cafe LuLuc on Smith street should help pass the time.
Every time I visit the South, I have to do a bit of football research so I can somewhat understand conversations.
i hope you enjoy your social security that i'm paying for

I can tolerate watching it but prefer football & baseball.
i've noticed a lot of women wearing big puffy black (faux?) fur coats about waist high this winter. in the shape of bubble jackets. really ugly.
i have a beige faux fur that's a 3/4 coat, as in it's way above waist line. it looks absurd and i feel like a trailer park tranny wearing it. i dont wear any of my rat furs anymore tho. so played out.

I could never imagine flying coach 18 hours or so to Hong Kong. Never. No wine?????????????

Despite jester's recent return this will be very hard to beat for GOTD. We shall see.
CONGRATULATIONS DIBS.

D-Cat. I will send you the presentation electronically. They always give us a link.
Ok, I am really outta here now. Later.....
I have to say that I'm thinking about making a change more and more. I wouldn't retire, but I'd like to do something different.
Donatella;
Here is my daily fact-check for you. We are now into February. Does BP really hold this conference in January?
I've done it twice: non-stop to Hong Kong. All I can advise is: bring a lot of books to read.

........as I was passing the magazine stand this morning, I was wondering if Cosmopolitan ever really changes the titles on its cover.
Was in the store one early morning b4 xmas when it was played, everyone stopped what they were doing and put the hand over their heart.
We need more people like Joseph E. Brooks.
It would seem that most of the world actually believes this except for those here trying to tear it apart and send it down a road of a socialist welfare state.

eh. more people should do it instead of rushing off to the emergency room for every little ache and cranny. besides, i've been able to properly diagnose myself correctly 99% of the time. i cannot say that even medical doctors have that high of an accuracy!

That is the problem my friends.
OWS really distinguished itself in Oakland, don't you think? Imagine if a Tea Party rally had descended into that level of violence and anarchy. Breathless stories of how the US is descending into a fascist nightmare, for sure.
No wonder so many people have stopped posting.
I wonder how many other people and classes of people dave will insult before lunch.
I read this book and I was surprised to feel very sorry for her, really sorry for her trying to constantly transform herself into a sexy babe. How tiring. How despressing. How sad to think you had to work SO HARD to be loved.
Are they just last year's news?
Blue Cross has to check name, addy, ssn, member i.d., etc. every time I phone.
Ditto Verizon & AT&T.
Numbers are only checks not insurance of i.d. QED = not gov't idiocy.
I wonder how many other people and classes of people dave will insult before lunch."
My sentiments exactly.
I get your point about numerous private sector companies messing things up on occasion.
However, there is a free market check to those scenarios;
if Verizon or AT&T don't get my address and information right, they don't get paid.
FAIL.

any chance the proceeds will be used to fund some of the missing $1.2B or this is for his legal bills?
It is amazing to me that not a single arrest has been made in the MF case. Yesterday's WSJ reports that the $1.2B probably will not be recovered - lost in trades and margin calls.
I was listening to the car radio yesterday and they mentioned the "missing" 1.2 billion dollars.
In an effort to give an equal opportunity bashing to the private sector:
Anyone involved in any way with the management of those funds should be tried under the RICO statutes.
As conspirators under Federal law with no chance of parole once convicted.
as inefficiency, abuse and lack of accountability are to the public sector.
Motherfucker.
but it seems to me that it would be a slam dunk for one of his US Attorneys to submit an indictment of a bunch of these fraudsters under the RICO laws for:
Conspiracy and racketeering with a pattern of embezzlement.
It would surely play to the OWS base.
Look at it the other way: if Jon Corzine is still roaming free in 6 months, President Obama will have handed the Republicans a golden gift. Jon Corzine, liberal icon, destroyer of lives, still roaming the earth.
there are inherent checks and balances in the private sector. For example, it's hard to commit fraud or steal funds if there are none there to take.
The government (public) sector has the ability to continue funding itself into oblivion because they can mandate it. Look at Solyndra.
"Turbo Tax" Geithner.
I think he's on record stating that he wouldn't go into a second term.
Didn't Corzine give a large amount of donations to the Dems?
on several occasions during the Bush administration, his Treasury Secretary went to Congress to stop the continued subsidizing and purchase of "high risk" mortgages.
The usual congressional suspects on Capital Hill stopped him in his tracks with cries of Classism and Racism.
30 minutes before I head to lunch. I'll try and add a few more innocent groups.
I am finding his commentary today slightly hyperbolic, but what the hell.
2011 Tax Refund Delay
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bad news is hitting consumers who filed 1040 federal income tax returns early.

I haven't been there in years and was so excited to go get lunch there like a month ago and it was totally terrible. Barely any Italians in the place anymore (I think they replaced all of the cooks with either Albanians or Yugoslavians). What a shame :o/
Totally agree. Last time I was there, it was terrible. Like you say, a shame. The Italians are biting the dust in that neck of the woods.
BTW, Try Giovanni's Brooklyn Eats on 16th and 8th.

Besides, this is why it's good practice not to allow the 99% with too much money all at once..they inevitably piss it away on cigarettes and low quality alcohol. Cripes, he won't even spend any of it to get laid.

You know what place I really miss in your neck of the woods? Magnolia. I liked everything about that place: the ambiance, the service and the food, of course.
But 6th Ave, 11-20 Streets is the new restaurant row -- Bar Toto, Soigne, something Wolfe's, Piccoli, Athena, Lot2, that bar with the brick oven pizza on 20th and the pizza/Italian place across the street from it.
I think so.
and besides, everyone agreed not to post until at least 30 minutes after a slopey posting. didn't you get the memo?
There's your answer, rob. That's why my panties are in a twist (though, per a certain half-term governor, the term is now "wad" not "twist").

This means that wells in some regions will not be able to be connected to the system and the gas will not be sold, or some wells will have to have their production curtailed because there is nowhere for it to go. So gas producers make very little money under such a scenario.

Somebody at Slomin Shield must have woken up. They now are using an articulate guy to explain the system instead of those screaming yelling idiots with the bad Brooklyn/Queens accents!!!!!!
im actually not a fan of most accents, i deal with them all day long from all over Earth. i think that nyc accent is easier to understand, as uncouth as it actually sounds. there are some accents where i have to make people repeat what they said like 5 times. my hearing problem doesnt help all that much, but im pretty sure it's mostly the accent. im good getting spanish accents, waspy accents, and that old school nyc accent. im awful with the more obviously hard to get accents.. french, german, REALLY bad with italian (from italy) accents, canadian accents (actually canadian accents can be easy to understand unless they are french canadadian but they give me heart burn). ive encountered many accents that i could not decipher what country it was from or even what region which is really strange cuz if you dont automatically know what accent it is it sounds like gibberish. another accent i cant stand? sorry, but i find this to be the case. women, usually under 30, talk like they have marbles in their mouths when it comes to generic newscaster accent, it's really awful. i find southern accents to be medium comprehension wise, but they always make me giggle for some reason. and then there's a very VERY distinct scholar from new england accent that is just off the hook obnoxiously strange.

1/2 of my tax refund this year will be going to get that one molar finished with it's crown (the post and core are in, and the root canal done, just need to finish the last part...), but i still have the rest left and plan to go down to south carolina to visit my grandmother.
it's sort of a test for me.. like, as in, if i actually DO get down there im going to be very proud of myself, and if i DON'T get down there which pretty much everyone is betting on happening im gonna be really pissed off at myself. but i think as soon as i get my refund im going to buy a ticket as last minute as possible to get the cheapest rate and just assume that tickets are non refundable. then im mailing my grandmother 100 bux from the refund a few days before i get down there cuz i really dont wanna show up totally broke and busted. her deceased son's baby momma wants to take me out on the town in charleston, and it would be gauche to show up with no money.

they might appear rich, and they definitely ARE rich, but something tells me they arent exactly the 1%. more like the 5-10% who just wanna have FUN WITH THEIR MONEY instead of being a creepy teepee weirdo like nanny bloomberg who has gazillions of dollars and decides to be something as pedestrian and blah as being mayor of nyc. i mean if that's not the definition of psychopath, i dont know what is. be honest, if you had billions of dollars, would you work!?!? especially at a job like mayor of a giant city!? that's just ego and shit. what does he actually get out of it? making the city 10x more unaffordable for people? he blows. i do give him credit on some things tho, he's not totally awful and he seems to have a sense of humor about the whole thing. but i just feel that having a mayor that is a billionaire makes the prices of everything in the city he governs over get SO expensive. and YES it is very much like ice cream and moonfaces. no one finds it the slight be strange that since he has been mayor that the prices of everything has skyrocketed and the cost of living is almost unbearable? i dont particularly want a poor mayor in the office because they actually bring the city they govern down in immense ways via crime, blight, etc. is there no middle ground? i wasnt a fan of cross-dresser transvestite guili@ni because he tried to stomp down on fun stuff in the city. that's all i really know about him. his cross dressing and his trying to get rid of fun, and his whole 9/11 stuff. before that who was there? kotch, dinkins? (i dont even remember which one was first...) they were supposedly good mayors right? i read a few chapters of some book about kotch awhile back but i got bored. is there any good book about dinkins? id love to read that. who was before them?

Threshold for 1% of income = $350- $500,000 depending on the survey. Think threshold for 1% of net worth is about $1.5mm.
Decent yacht = $1mm ish +. Don't know cost to maintain but assume mid five figures p.a.
As a threshold 1%er you could probably just about do it I guess but would have to cut out a lot of other 1% stuff.

Hope the site continues to do well.

they have been together since like soph. year in high school.
...or so I'm told [kicking vanity under the table]
35 is middle-aged? Crap, that make me OLD! I refuse! I will not BE old!
in GAY MAN years. for you frau, i dont know, you still have a few good working years left.
*rob*
Hiya Kens.
Cobble, no one could ever guess your age
Who is your avatar?
for gays - that averages later not earlier.
((((touch wood)))))
when you approach middle age you settle down with the 'one'.
for gays - that averages later not earlier.
and who would i be settling down with? the bums outside the Keyfood parking lot? having slappy catfights over the last can of store brand tuna? my standards are too high, and i have very little to offer, it's not like im clueless about WHY im an autosexual. i can't be asked to do the whole relationship thing these days anyway. people are so fucking needy, especially the gays... and then they just wind up sleeping around anyway. so, yeah. pointless.

but there are probably better sites if you are serious.
have you tried 'christiansingles'? do they have a men for men section?
Plagiarism off of the internet

LMFAO.
Rob, you've been writing graphically about sex recently. Is this the first stop on the road to having some?
ew, no way. after im done masturbating and watching porn, i get those overall GROSS feeling all over my being. if i fucked someone these days i'd probably slap them in the face, steal their wallet, and storm out the door in a big giant hissy fit that would be really faggy. it's just not me, and im cool with that. i have a very good sex drive, but i dont want to share it with other people. im selfish.
*rob*
I hope you didn't recognize anyone.
Rob, have you tried Match?
:-/ do i look like a divorced frau in her mid 30's?! do i look like someone who is afraid of their own looks they hide behind a computer screen? match what? me? good luck

I'm fascinated by fulfencio's double life. What's his day job, btw?
fucking dave in the pooperhole for money and sending that money to mexico (i've probably stood next to him in the cash checking places and didnt know it). shut up, you know it's true, and dave can vouch.

There are plumbing experts and woodworkers here, too, Old Man.
He works at a wholesale produce place in Brooklyn Terminal Market. He starts at 4:00 AM.
let me guess. he makes more money than i do, pays NO taxes on his income, has a pregnant wife with kids on welfare. am i correct? im not saying this out of hate, cuz im loling at the whole thing. but it's true. no?

That's what I said to the bar captain at Barbierry Bar in Bangkok when I picked up the twins.
They're 7 months - about DH's age in human years.
.just because DH is the the youngest person on this board, doesnt make him not old! he's old too! youre just older, we are older! deal with it ::shakes cane::
*rob*
Or spew, depending on whom you're talking about.
How much would Fulgencio charge to shove tomatoes down Rob's pants?
probably nothing as im not a gazillion years old and dont own a gazillion homes so what would be in it for Fulgencio?!?!? seriously, THAT/THIS is the problem i have with gays and women in general. they are only out to get what they can get. relationships have nothing to do with actual bonding and shit, it's all about what they can get. barf.

GOD, what a heartless bitch!!!!!!!!! [NO SMILEY FACE]
Only his current kids live with him. They would all be referred to as anchor babies...they were all born here, get free education and medical.
translation: welfare! and i dont give a shit, i grew up not on welfare proper, but many of the perks, but you are a hypocrite hating on democrats all the time when you are anti their beliefs.
and yes, i view the democrat part as welfare central. it's never gonna help me unless i miraculously grow a uterus, but whatev.

My dog was a refugee from the South too. She was owned by a family that had to give her up after the BP oil spill. They lost their jobs, and brought her to a shelter. It was a kill shelter, however, and North Shore rescued her from there.
You won't go wrong with North Shore. They're great.

jessi, the adoption process and application/contract you have to sign is designed to avoid someone doing just that. There's a woman who wants to adopt one of them, but they prefer me as I expressed interest in both of them.
this is why i prefer getting dogs from random people that KNOW YOU. serious, making adopting a dog as hard as renting an apartment in NYC these days? fuck off.
*rob*
im a loving, caring person, who is willing to spend x and y amounts of money on a dog and you are telling me i can't do that? stupid and backwards. im gonna go apeshit if in a few years i run into trouble adopting a dog outright.
