What's more important in the Middle East??? One small country or all the others that either provide us with oil or want to annihilate us through terrorism??? Think President Obama, THINK HARD.

Actually Perry's support of Israel is just a ploy to appeal to the far right Christians. It has nothing to do with the actual issue at hand. I suspect he'll throw them under the bus once elected. (just like Obama did with his "Change" message)

They will drop today too. The 30 year Treasury rate is 2.75%, exactly half of where I bought my 30 Year Treasuries in 2005 (5.4%) for my retirement account. The dilemma I have is do i sell or hold on? I don't think 30 Year rate is going to get beck to 5.4% for a LONG time. That's a juicy yield for retirement.

There's almost no daylight between Bush, Obama, Clinton, etc. on Israel-Palestine. There are rhetorical differences (vastly amplified by the media) but nothing on the ground has changed. I assume Perry and most of the other Republicans - except Bachmann and Ron Paul - would follow in this grand tradition. Bush I and Eisenhower are still the only presidents to put real pressure on Israel (and Reagan, but he did it just once, to stop the aerial bombardment of Beirut in 1982).

I don't think any holy sites will be at any more risk than before. Obama's mideast policy has been a DISASTER. He's completely out of water here and has no actual foreign policy.

If a president can't affect the economy, he can at least have a sensible foreign policy.

DIBS, he's been a disaster on Israel-Palestine, and lets Netanyahu push him around. How is it that we give so much money in aid to Israel (which they don't need, it's a developed country, for crying out loud!) and our President lets the Israeli PM call the shots?!??!

On the rest of the Middle East he's been fine, just the usual hypocrisy we can expect from any US President. He was a bit behind the curve on Egypt and the rest of the Arab Spring but any other president would have been in the same position.

Alright, enough with this bullshit economy,
I'm putting my own economic plan into effect right here on the OT.

Who needs a job?

I have a direct connection with a job as an Administrative Assistant in a medical education institution in Brooklyn.

The downside is working for an annoying person (but then again, there's a reason work is a four letter word).

The upside is that there is a paycheck every two weeks.

Contact me through the usual routes if interested in learning more.
(i.e. the keymaster CGar)

Now back to our usual programming.

DIBS, our intelligence services (which have the same employees regardless of president) totally missed the oncoming protests in Egypt. After Mubarak fell some hapless CIA employee was called to the Senate FR committee and questioned as to why our intelligence services didn't know there would be massive protests on January 25. The employee said they didn't know what the triggering mechanism would be (even after Tunisia!). So apparently the CIA doesn't monitor Facebook or have *any* on-the-ground knowledge would filtered up to people with actual power. That bureaucracy would have been in place regardless of President.

Unfortunately sixyears,
I imagine that much our Intelligence Services suffer from the same bureaucratic, lack-of-accountability, petrified mode of thinking that brought us the "wall" between intelligence services. The wall that let to the intel. fiasco on 9/11.

There was one person who was instrumental in that debacle, named Jaime Gorelick (assistant Attorney General).
One would think that our government would hold such a person accountable and send them home and tell them not to look back.
No, instead, she went on to distinguish herself in the Fannie Mae/ Freddie Mac meltdown a few years later.

...here's the kicker, she made millions doing it.

That's our government in a nutshell.

Pete, look back at the whole settlement freeze issue and how Netanyahu ran circles around Obama. Usually, if you're paying someone hundreds of millions a year, you should be able to push them around and make them stop building a few homes.

Unfortunately for Israel, Netanyahu is an idiot. If he doesn't agree to a real two-state solution now, and do something to implement it, the Palestinians will start asking for a one-state solution - there are already rumblings of dissolving the PA entirely and campaigning for a binational state.

As for Perry, that doesn't distinguish him from anyone else running for President. Too bad the only people who get to be president are those crazy enough to put themselves and their families through a modern campaign - you'd have to be batshit crazy to want that.

The police are really turning up the heat in the South Slope/Greenwood Heights. This past weeked I was on the Prospect Expressway late at night (by myself) and took the 8th Ave exit. I started to go north on 8th Ave ( a one way street) when a car comes out of nowhere, lights blaring, and goes down 8th Ave in southbound direction(the wrong way). Next thing I know I've got spotlights on me. After quickly giving me a look-over, the police let me go continue on my way.

Yeh, the kids are all pretty good and have good parents, otherwise they would not be in the class.
On the other hand, I had good parents but did not learn shit about sex or relationships from them.

The class also goes a lot into being accepting of themselves and others, especially for kids who might be gay or bi.

And of course, there will be several sessions on the mechanics of things and health risks, but the real focus looks to be about building good relationships.

I'm still not sure how that will cover 27 sessions, but I guess that's why I'm going to training this weekend.

Good rule, Scott. If we really want to make this site grow- and I, for one do- we need to be a little more circumspect in how we argue. I want to give dibs credit- notice how now he calls my statements "moronic", rather than calling me moronic. You've come a long way, dave. Still a bit to go, but you're learning. ;-)

it isn't about arguing, rob. It's how we argue, and how we say the things we do. You need to self edit0 it's fine to be open and honest in your opinions but you don't have to put everything in such offensive ways. YOu may be making a point, but you're turning people off to listening to you. And if the idea is not to get people to listen to what you're saying, why bother commenting?

I missed all the excitement "over there" this week. Alot of folks have already expressed my thoughts, except one. Has Mr. B. or his stooge supplied one example of where the PLUSA's "took the oxygen out" of a non-OT thread? As I remember that site before the massacre, a large percentage of the PLUSA's were hardly commenting at all on the non-OT threads. In fact, even before the massacre, many of the non-OT threads were only receiving a few comments, if any. The quality of much of the editorial had declined, especially the features like HOTD, ROTD, etc. It is obvious that he was phoning it in, and is looking for someone else to blame for losing his mojo.

Rob, thinking before we speak about the effect our words might have on others makes us human. No one always gets the balance right, sometimes one might hold too much back, say too much, or even make a conscious choice to take the risk of hurting or offending. If you cannot imagine the vast middle between blurting out every stray thought just because it pops into your head and oppressive cencorship, well, then, it explains a lot. I actually think you do not intend to be hostile or insensitive so much as you are sometimes tone deaf as to how your ramblings and snarky responses will sound to others. I also can't see this being much of a productive line of discussion for anyone who chooses to continue it.

"The doors are opening, please stand clear!!".

Does JFK Air Train work 24 hours? When I travelled in August, I park in the short term lot and my flight got delayed so I didn't get to JFK till 2am and Air Train was closed. Rod Serling fun facts:

* Wrote most of the scripts for The Twilight Zone, and he did it under severe time pressure.

Yeah, M4L, it has been a while. They are doing construction to rent it to someone else. The food was good over there, but they did not have a good business. It was a take out place but stuff took so long to cook! They wouldn't deliver under 15 dollars or something like that. AND if you decided to pick up something (and wait for them to cook it) you had to wait in an unheated store. The only heat came from the ovens. So you would shiver for 10 minutes while they cooked your burger. They really did not have it together.

This neighborhood is going to look different next spring. There are trees being planted everywhere!!! On Vanderbilt Ave, there is a whole strip of them between Bergen and Atlantic. Also, on Clermont between Fulton and Atlantic, trees. I was just at the Putnam triangle last night. It looks like they are trying to put these massive cement planters around there. I am Special Victim'd out. As much as I love Stabler and Olivia, the format just is so stale and they ramped it up by making the crimes more and more horrible. After a while, I started wondering "Why am I WATCHING this crap"? Just before bed, filling my head with images of depravity which got worse by the week. Also, what happened to Jeff Goldblum? Is he still in Criminal Intent? Man, he sucked. As much as I like him (whoa I used to think he was the hottest out there, though now he is slightly seedy looking), the writing on that show was AWFUL.

Central banks were buying gold, ECB. HAHAHA. Jerks. They sold their physical inventories in the mid 90s at 250. And have been buying at recent prices. Also the Asian central banks. But this is about the retail investor freaking and the ETFs having to dump. In futures, the leverage is tremendous (you only need to put up about 5% of value) so moves can be dramatic since settlement on margin is next day.

Last night Lawrence O'Donnell was horrible. He gave this really emotional testimony on the evil of the death penalty and then breezily segued to an interview of Levi Johnson. The sole purpose of the interview was to mock him and mock his book and mock his whole act. I thought wow, how snarky and super mean. So Levi Johnson isn't a rocket scientist and is well, Levi Johnson, but O'Donnell was pure nastiness.

No, rob- it stops at city hall. But you can get the 4 and the 5 there which do go to Brooklyn- Get out at court st/Boro Hall and walk through the station to the R. It's a bit of a walk- it's a long station, and you'll pass the 2/3 platform.

People are acting all sorts of rude today. Totally not going outside tonight.

Some woman totally cuts in front of everyone waiting to get on the L train at union square. when she realizes there's no seats available she walks back to the door **as people are getting on the train** and parks it right in everyones' way so she can have the door spot.

then this eminem wanna be gangsta kid who looks like he has fetal alcohol syndome face proceeds to reach across my face to hold onto the pole, and kept inadvertently touching my hand.

Up here, beer/ alcohol is only sold in two store chains, one govt owned.
Good news - I have one close by
Bad news - It opens later than most of the others and so attracts the hard core alkies, e.g. guy in front if me in line the other night with a huge bottle of Canadian sherry (b/c spirits are super expensive here and domestic anything costs much less than foreign).

I had a refrigerator full of beer that people brought for different things -- my birthday last year, Christmas, New Years. Someone told me it lasts if you refrigerate it. malt liquor is a type of beer, they add cheap stuff and brew it differently so the alcohol content is higher, but the overall quality is lower (i think very little hops is used)

Dona - If your fridge would be empty w/o all that beer, you're better off keeping it. Once it's cold it works to keep the fridge cold so it doesn't cycle on & off as frequently as an empty fridge would.

Can't stand etsy merchants who charge what they need to earn instead of what something is worth.

And WTF does it mean to be reclaimed wood anyway? I would think it's gotta come from some to-be-destroyed building, but I think the term is used more loosely these days.

If you used reclaimed wood, Jessi, some people think it increases your chance of getting into heaven. Because people seem to make a religion out of wood, especially old wood. Usually it means that you get some wood from an old house, barn somewhere. I'd rather just go to Premium wood on third avenue in Brooklyn.

I think some beers have preservatives in them that many people get headaches from - similar to cheap wines. I had no problem w/ it until about 3 years ago -now I get hangovers.

Channel surfing here, and saw a show called Whitney. Is that woman anorexic or what???
September 23, 2011 8:52 PM - jessibaby
Whitney's last name is Cummings - that's sort of unfortunate.

Just found this on Google - interesting.
Besides, extending the shelf life of beer, some additives are also used as foam stabilizers. A simple experiment can enable you to decide if your beer contains foam stabilizers or not. Take a clean beer mug and add a drop of milk to it. Now pour your favorite beer in this beer mug. If the foam at top disappears within second, it indicates that no foam stabilizers are present in your beer. On the other hand, if the foam refuses to die even after a minute, be sure that your beer has been laced with preservatives.

meh. why do people make SUCH a big deal about preservatives anyway? we've had them for so many years now and we keep living to ridiculous high ages. obviously, they are working, no? i know it's not natural and organic and shit but if we only ate natural and organic shit we'd probably be dead sooner. (hmmm.. maybe this IS a good thing that these people choose that lifestyle). i just think people bug out these days way too much what is in their food.. to the point of neurosis. granted i have a no pooping policy for guests in my apartment so i aint one to talk...

I like how you only offer wendy's napkins to your guests for purposes of wiping. If Wendy's napkins werent that bright yellow color with a ginger girl's face on them, it wouldnt be nearly as offensive though.

bxgirl and MM are on csi!? HA!!!!!!! my old roommate/frenemy from harlem was an extra on law and order btw! i think it took a few days, literally, for the shoot, and you cant really even see her face. it was a crowd of like hundreds of people running down stairs. im sure she has the link ill ask her for it.

im not that ghetto. there is toilet paper in this apartment. i used napkins from restaurants and stuff when i lived on my own, a long time ago. my friend krazey actually was over last weekend (stayed from friday til sunday when i finally kicked him out). im a heartless bastard, i told him if he HAS to poop to do it in the middle of the night or something, then make sure the window is open and close the door. i guess he probably did, i dont know, i dont care. when we hang out and he doesnt want to go back to jersey he sleeps on my bedroom floor in that leopard print snuggie that Biff gave me. he used to sleep on the couch in the living room but i thought that wasnt fair to my roommate who wakes up very early.

dh - There are drinks made w/ milk & beer mixed.
rob - In the olden days there were preservatives such as salt or aging. Nowadays preservatives can be formaldehyde, arsenic, & other pretty potent chemicals. Mind you, I don't care & eat SuzyQs & other artificial crap: but it is true that some people get ill from them. I have a niece, in fact, who gets headaches from too much salt (which she sometimes has w/o knowing it's in what she has eaten.)
No margaritas here. If we were at the pool it would have to be under ginormous umbrellas not those little ones in tropical drinks. And I don't have a t.v. so couldn't throw a party to watch CSI.

i just looked up "grasshopper meaning"

***
Three day’s ago I had a visitor come to my place of residence to bring me a message about where I AM at in life and what direction I AM heading. The picture above is the visitor who brings me a great Omen that I had to share. Above is an image of the FL grasshopper who happens to be really BIG! This guy is really super and so I had to research what it means. Turns out he has made himself at home and still continues to live here since his arrival. Doing a quick search through Google I find that it is one of the greatest symbols of good fortune! I AM not surprised since great advancements have been working out for me and Concentric Clothing. As I write this post in my linai he is actually moving which I have not yet seen since he booked his stay at my place. Very cool!

Here is the spiritual meaning that I found that I would like to share just in case any of you come in to contact with one or your spiritual journey.

Grasshopper Symbolism — The grasshopper is associated with astral travel. They have the ability to leap through time and into space where the true mysteries of life exist. People with this medicine have the wisdom necessary to overcome obstacles efficiently and are able to jump into successful ventures without preparation or planning. When the grasshopper appears to us we are being asked to take a leap of faith and jump forward into a specific area of life without fear. Usually that specific area is one that we have avoided and is often connected to change on a larger scale. This can represent a change in location, relationships, career or just in the way we perceive ourselves.

Grasshoppers can only jump forward….not backward, or sideways. So, when grasshopper shows up he could be reaffirming to you that you are taking the right steps to move forward in your current situation. Or it could be that he is telling you to go ahead and move forward, getting past what is hindering you. This is why grasshopper is the symbol of good luck all over the world. Grasshopper’s ability to connect and understand sound vibrations is why he is also a symbol of your inner voice. he could be telling you to trust yours.
