A couple of requests...
May 12, 2015 9:09 AM - rf
Hi Scott,

I know that you've been super-busy but I wonder if, when you have the time and energy, you would consider one or more of these requests:
1. An "ignore" button. I don't want to see the What's posts anymore. Seriously.
2. Removal of an author to delete responses to his/her post when s/he deletes his/her own post. The responses will stand for themselves.

Respectfully submitted.

Privacy Between Site Users

Welcome to Life In Brooklyn! Let’s dispense with the pleasantries and get down to what you came here to read: Our Policy on Posting and Discussing Private Information:

First and foremost, you must understand that LIB is a PUBLIC SITE!!!

LIB encourages all participants to engage in conversations/debates/etc. respectfully and as fully as they wish. However, to cover our asses and to make sure you know what you are getting into here, please read the following in full.

Participants can visit the site and interact without revealing any information about themselves. If one does choose to reveal any level of personal information on our site for the purposes of correspondence, then you should know that said information is no longer private, as it exists on the never-ending interwebs! You are free to delete a comment/photo/etc. you posted in the past, but the site’s admins and editors will not take the countless hours required to do this for you. Site admins and editors will however remove violating comments/photos/etc. going forward at the aggrieved poster’s request. The repercussions of said violations will be the sole determination of the site’s Super Admin.

All participants are asked to be respectful of private information they may hold regarding other participants. Specifically, participants are asked not to divulge any personal information, whether damaging or otherwise, about other participants on the site. Failure to do so may expose you to legal action by the aggrieved poster. In no event shall LifeInBkln or its ownership, its employees or agents, or anyone who has been involved with the creation, production or delivery of these pages be held liable for any direct, incidental or consequential damages from the use of this site.

If you are comfortable with some posters and are willing to have certain aspects of your life freely discussed, carry on. We just ask that everyone use common sense and a modicum of kindness. Thank you.

Major screw up
April 19, 2015 9:45 AM - BoerumHillScott
Yesterday, the site went down due to a hardware failure at our hosting provider.
During the day they said they were restoring it, and it would come back.
This morning when I asked for a status update, they said the server was lost, and no data could be recovered.
I was making backups of the site, but was storing them on the same server, so they were all lost as well.
In the past, I also copied backups to a different server, but due to procrastination I never set up that process for the new site.
Right now, the site is running on the same server that I run various personal and other web sites on.
It should be fine here, but I will start looking into other options for hosting. My strong preference is to have the site on a virtual private server by itself in order to segregate lifeinbklyn from the other sites I run, as well as to let the two servers back each other up.
I am sorry for the inconvenience and the loss of data.
-Scott

Site overview - groups, posts, comments
February 27, 2015 8:26 AM - BoerumHillScott
The three levels of content on the site are groups, posts, and comments, replacing the previous mix of articles (with comments), forum topics, forum posts (with comments), and pages.

A group is primary a container for posts.

There are two types of groups: public, which can be seen by everyone, and private groups, which can only be seen by members.

Public groups are farther divided into two types: ones people who are not logged in can see all content, and limited public groups where people who are not logged in can only see posts, and nto comments or images.

Private groups are farther divided into two types: ones where anyone logged in user can join, and ones where only invited users can join.

Inside groups, posts can be created. For public groups, only users with "Author" level of access can create post. Inside private groups, any member can create a post.

If a post has not had any comments made to it yet, it can be deleted by the creator, users with "Editor" access in public groups, and by group owners and moderators in private groups. Once a comment has been made to a post, it can only be deleted by an administrator.

A post supports a wide range of HTML formatting, and can have multiple images.

Site administrators or owners of private groups can "lock" a post, preventing additional comments or edits.

Comments can be made to any post that is not locked.

A post supports a wide range of HTML formatting, and can have multiple images.

The Booth
August 8, 2011 6:47 PM - BoerumHillScott
******** WARNING: NSFW pictures below *******

Based on a drunken idea that I think Rob came up with at Montero, I have created a new private, members only forum called "The Booth."
The idea behind The Booth is that it is a place for things that too offensive to be placed on the public areas of the site.

I want to keep rules to a minimum, although things that will get the site shut down or get me in legal trouble are still off limits.

If you want to be a member, reply here or send me an e-mail with your username to boerumhillscott@gmail.com
